Operation Fortitude was the code name for a World War II military deception employed by the Allied nations as part of an overall deception strategy (code named Bodyguard) during the build-up to the 1944 Normandy landings. Fortitude was divided into two sub-plans, North and South, with the aim of misleading the German high command as to the location of the invasion.

Alan Armstrong was an expert pilot, a wealthy playboy, and the confidant of his fiancé Eve's father, Admiral Corby. The Admiral suspected that spies had infiltrated America and needed help, so Armstrong put on a costume and became the Spy Smasher. When WWII ended, he changed his name to Crime Smasher and shifted his focus towards fighting crime. Eve sometimes helps him since she knows his secret identity.

WWII leaflet dropped on Japanese occupied Philippines warning the population that the Allied invasion will begin soon. The reverse of the leaflet had instructions for the Filipinos to stay away from all Japanese held positions and to move as far inland as possible. The design is available in white or deep blue. Late 1945 Allied propaganda leaflet dropped over China. Such leaflets informed Chinese citizens what an American pilot looked like, his uniform and so on. It also asked the Chinese to assist any downed flyer they might find in need of help.

WWII Japanese propaganda intended for Australians. The print titled and captioned " The Spectre Commands: Thous shalt go, Americans, and eat the Australians out of their homes, if necessary..... The Americans will fight to the last Australian ". The print depicts FDR as the " Spectre " or grim reaper like figure and having driven a flag pole through the body of an Australian soldier.
