Well known in motor sport to signify the racer has completed the course with the winner as first to cross the line. Flag speaks of success, winning and being no.1. Top of the podium,winning awards and applause from fans. Why the chequered flag? The meaning is lost in history which itself leads to many possible origins. However the first photographic record stands from 1906. Also from the same year, some evidence traces the flag's origin to one Sidney Waldon, an employee of the Packard Motor Car Company, who in 1906 devised the flag to mark "checking stations" (now called "checkpoints...
