This is another image of one of the many vaults inside L’Eglise du Dome, this one showing the tomb of Joseph Napoleon. Joseph-Napoleon Bonaparte (1768 – 1844) was the elder brother of Napoleon Bonaparte, who made him King of Naples and Sicily and later King of Spain. He was a lawyer, a diplomat, and a soldier. This is an image of one of the many, many vaults inside L'Eglise du Dome, showing the tomb of Turenne. Henri de La Tour d’Auvergne, vicomte de Turenne, was a French military leader and a marshal of France. He was one of the greatest military commanders during the reign of Louis XIV. He began his military career in the Thirty Years War (from 1625); he subsequently commanded the royal armies in the civil war of the Fronde (1648–1653); commanded the French invasion of the Spanish Netherlands (1667) and in the third Dutch War (in 1672). Napoleon deemed him history’s greatest military leader. Hope you like this image. All images are Copyright © Hany G. Jadaa; C.Chem. M.Sc. Eng.; and Copyright © Prince John Photography (the Artist)...

This is one image of many sculptures and reliefs inside L’Eglise du Dome in the lower gallery where the tomb of Napoleon is located. If I understand the various statements carved in this massive sculpture properly, I believe it depicts the justice council and its members and their roles in instituting various French laws. The following few images are all shot inside the Eglise du Dome in Paris. This church has a number of statues, sculptures, and vaults each dedicated to a war hero. Napoleon II was the son of Napoleon I, Emperor of the French. When Napoleon I abdicated in April 1814, he named his son as Emperor. However, the coalition partners that had defeated him refused to acknowledge his son as a successor, and Napoleon I was forced to abdicate unconditionally a number of days later. Although Napoleon François Bonaparte never actually ruled France, he was briefly the titular Emperor of the French and is still generally referred to by historians as Napoleon II. I hope you like this image. All images are Copyright © Hany G. Jadaa; C.Chem. M...

This is an image of The National Residence of the Invalids in Paris. It is also known by many other names, including L'Hôtel des Invalides and Musée de l'Armée. Essentially it is a fairly large complex of buildings containing various museums and monuments, all relating to the military history of France, as well as a hospital and a retirement home for war veterans (which was the building's original purpose). The various buildings include the Musée de l'Armée (the military museum of the Army of France), the Musée des Plans-Reliefs, the Musée d'Histoire Contemporaine, as well as the burial site for some of France's war heroes, notably Napoleon Bonaparte. This massive project was initiated by an order dated November 1670 by Louis XIV a...

Napoleon died on the island of St Helena in May of 1821 (he was in exile there since 1815). He was initially buried in the Geranium valley, and his remains rested there until October of 1840. In 1840 his remains were exhumed and brought to Paris (under the instructions of Louis-Philippe, who demanded that the English return the emperor to French soil). A state funeral was held, and the remains laid to rest in St Jerome's Chapel. The remains were moved in 1861 when the tomb was completed. Right now, Napoleon's Tomb is located in the central crypt of the Eglise du Dome Church at the Hotel des Invalides in Paris. The remains of the emperor, inside the sarcophagus, are protected by six concentric coffins, built from different materia...
