Frontier Town Tank Tops

Adapted from an early decal. For more than 40 years, Frontier Town, a Wild West theme park, was a destination for families from across the country. Visitors traveled back into living history visiting the hearths and homes of a pioneer village, enjoying a rodeo and finding themselves in the midst of a hold-up by outlaws on horseback. Charles (CM) Russell, the “cowboy artist”, created more than 2,000 paintings of cowboys, Indians, and landscapes set in the Western United States. He lived and worked among the cowboys and the Blood Indian tribe in his younger years. This image is called “The Tenderfoot” and depicts a cowboy shooting up the feet of a tenderfoot or newcomer to the wild west while the town residents look on.

Pawnee, Indiana is a fictional town located in south central Indiana, 90 miles from Indianapolis and 35 miles past Bloomington. In 1812, Reverend Luther Howell of Terre Haute traveled over 100 miles by pushcart and planted a flag in the ground. That soil, formerly inhabited by the Wamapoke Indian tribe, was to become Pawnee. Rev. Howell was soon dispatched by the tribe, but not before consecrating the town's first church, Pawnee Lutheran, which still stands today, though it was deconsecrated in 1974 and is currently a wholesale linen outlet. Legend has it, Reverend Howell chose "Pawnee" as the name for the town accidentally. As a functional illiterate, he tried to write "Paradise" on the city charter, and his scrawls were misinterpreted.
