The view of the Louvre Palace as seen from the Tuileries Gardens in Paris. The Musée du Louvre is the world's largest art museum and is situated on the right bank of the River Seine. It started life as a castle which was demolished in 1546 to build the palace - the residence of French kings until the eventual move to Versailles. It became a museum in 1793 during the French Revolution to display the country's artistic masterpieces. This image has a digital monochrome pencil sketch finish.

This is a close-up image of one of the Louvre's wings showing the top of the building and its details, with all the windows and statues and intricate art work. I found the outdoors art work more interesting than the indoor collection. There are over 86 statues of famous French philosophers, artists, poets, and other eminent men and women adorning almost the entire perimeter of the Louvre's tops (I stopped counting after 86). This is one of the little known entrances to the Louvre. The thing about this entrance is that it is only open at certain times and you may find that even during those certain hours, it may be closed. This is Paris after all and break time can happen at anytime. Happy to report it was open at night after all the walking that I did that day. This is an image of the Hotel du Louvre, a large hotel situated just outside one of the main entrances to the Louvre Museum and is easily accessible by one of the metro stations. The 4 facades and terrace of this hotel overlook the famous Louvre Museum, the Opéra Garnier and the Comédie Française theater. Hotel du Louvre is 2 minutes from Palais Royal Metro Station, providing direct access to the Champs Elysees and the Place de la Bastille. All images are taken with a Canon 5D III (full frame) and a Canon 7D II (crop frame) using a variety of Canon L-Series lenses, and Tamron and Sigma pro-line lenses; processed in RAW with ACR, PSC, Photomatix, and a variety of other imaging software. The Louvre’s glass pyramid was built in 1989 and is 21 metres high. It is made solely of glass and metal and is now one of the city’s most recognisable landmarks. It serves as the main entrance to the Louvre Museum. It’s erection caused a fair bit of controversy as the architect, I.M. Pei, was the first non-French architect to work on the Louvre.
