Beautiful Japanese style sunset, with a peaceful boat

We hired a long-tailed boat and captain for a day and visited some of the islands in the Andaman Sea near Ao Nang in Thailand. Our captain took us to Railay Beach, a very popular tourist spot, where towering karst formation cliffs dominate the warm waters and white sand beach. This image captures, for me, the essence of that day, the long-tailed boat we hired, and one of the magnificent karst towers that dot the seascape. The sky was dark blue, the sea rich in shades of aquamarine and a hint of the white sand below. I loved the way the boat bobbed on the surface of the shallow calm water, where the clarity was such that the boat was seemingly floating above the surface. Very cool and delightfully warm.

This image was inspired by a painter whose work I have long admired. Anne Clarke is an Australian Artist who paints *massive* paintings and has many wooden boats as her subject material. I searched high and low for the right boat and the right light to capture something that would be similar to her style of work. I found this little wooden row boat in the south of Tasmania, Australia.

A narrowboat moored on the banks of the Thames at Lechlade in Gloucestershire on an overcast afternoon, close to the Oxfordshire border and right at the southernmost tip of the Cotswolds. Here we are also at the highest navigable point of the river - St John'sLlock just below this scene being the first (or last) to navigate. Just further upstream the river becomes narrower and shallower - the river looking very little like the mighty Thames flowing through London!
