The Tommy 1101 statue at Seaham Harbour in County Durham captured at a colourful late evening Spring sky.

A war-weary Tommy sits thoughtfully, head bowed, rifle in hand, as he reflects upon the sheer horror of World War One during the first minute after peace was declared in 1918. This imposing metal sculpture, entitled 1101, owing to the fact the armistice went into effect at 11am on November 11, 1918, stands 9ft 5ins tall and weighs 1.2 tonnes. Built out of special corteen steel, it has been installed on Seaham seafront in Country Durham to mark the centenary of the start of the Great War. Created by local artist Ray Lonsdale, the sculpture is also intended to represent Post Traumatic Stress Disorder which many of the returning soldiers endured.

Cow Green Reservoir is located in the dales of County Durham, close to the borders with Cumbria and Upper Teesdale. The reservoir feeds water to the River Tees, via the weir and the Cauldron Snout waterfall. In the distance is Black Hill, leading to Mickle Fell and the Warcop military firing ranges.

The coastal town of Seaham Harbour is in County Durham on the north east coast of England. Once a very busy port exporting coal from the numerous mines in the area and chemicals and glass from the chemical works, it is now a much quieter area. A search of the beaches in the area still show the history of the area, with old wagon tracks and uprights visible on the less frequented beaches. Here a set of old wagon wheels sit in the sea, only visible a low tides......they stand proud against the sea, with Seaham pier and lighthouse in the background, a reminder of the history of the area.

The Allt Mor Burn tumbles down Meall Dubh, through the woods and into the village of Kinloch Rannoch. The waterfall is best seen in the winter months as it splashed over the rock formations into the village.

Loch Gamhna is a small loch located in the Cairngorm National park of the Scottish Highlands. Located just west of the town of Aviemore, it is accessed via overgrown pathways that surround the larger Loch Eilean. A walk down these tracks reveal a hidden gem - made more spectacular in the snow. Canon 5D Mk3 16-35L

Early morning reflections of the Skidded Mountain Range on the glass like Derwentwater in the Lake District of England.

Loch lagoon is a 7 mile long freshwater loch located in the Scottish Highlands. Running parallel to the A82, it affords some spectacular views for anyone driving along the route. Here the view is westwards towards the Ben Nevis mountain range.

The sheep pen is located next to the River Coquet which runs through the Coquet Valley of Northumberland, close to the Scottish Borders. The sheep pens are located on the valley floor. The sheep are moved from the surrounding hills during what can be very severe winters.

The old wagon wheels are a set of wheels that are visible at low tide on the old 'Chemical Beach' situated at Seaham Harbour on the north east coast of England. They are from an old wagon that used to run along a line from the area of the old chemical works to the harbours. The slow shutter of what was a fantastic sky adds to the character of the image.

St Marys Loch is the largest natural loch in the Scottish Borders. It is located close to the towns of Moffat and Selkirk. Surrounded by a gorgeous backdrop of hills, it makes for a wonderful place to visit

Sun rising over the Old Chemical Beach, located on the north east coast of England, slightly south of Seaham Harbour. The name was given to the area during the times of the old chemical works that are situated on the cliff tops. The area still shows the remnants of the industrial heritage.

The lagoon located on the Costa Calma at the southern end of Fuerteventura is a tidal lagoon, separated from the sea by a sandbar. At very high tides and full moons the tide rises over the sandbar and floods the lagoon. Captured here on its last day before it returns to sandy beach

Lindisfarne or Holy Island as it is often referred to is located just off the Northumberland Coastline and is only accessible by road via a causeway that is visible at low tide. A small island containing a fishing harbour and a castle, it holds a prominent position in the religious heritage of the area. When on the island, looking west to the mainland, if lucky, you witness some great sunsets.

The Seven Sisters is a local name for a copse of trees located in the town of Houghton le Spring in County Durham. Various local legends exist in relation to the trees. Though still retaining the name, one of the trees has now been lost.

Cow Green, a two mile long reservoir was built between 1967 and 1971 to supply the industries of Teesside. Environmentally speaking this part of Upper Teesdale is of National importance, and the plan to construct this reservoir had been strongly opposed by local conservationists. Their main concern was the protection of the rich flora and fauna of the district and especially rare alpine plants like the unique Teesdale violet. Damon %D MKiii 24 - 105 L series lens

Loughrigg Tarn is a small, natural lake located in the Lake District of North West England, in the county of Cumbria. Located close to the famous Windermere, it sits very close to the village of Skelwith Bridge, below Loughrigg Fell. Looking out across the tarn, the magnificent Langdale Pikes are visible.
