Thornycroft Swiftsure Number of views as of 4th December 2017 = 930. Thornycroft built coaches, buses and trucks in the UK from 1896 until 1977. Starting out with steam powered vans and lorries, the company built their first petrol engined vehicle in 1902 and had completely switched over to the internal combustion engine by 1907. Perhaps their best known and most successful vehicle was the 'Mighty Antar' used by the UK military as a tank transporter. This beautifully restored 1959 cattle truck is something of a rarity and would have been originally built at Thornycroft's factory in Basingstoke, Hampshire. This rusty & dilapidated Thornycroft Trusty near Bilpin (NSW, Australia), on the Bell's Line of Road has stopped me a few times. This is the first time I have seen it without bright sunshine & dark shadows. It would have been built in the mid 1950's. There are a few rusty relics here. This one is the most photogenic.
