Defunct Alton Blues Baseball Team

The Alton Blues were a minor league baseball team based in Alton, Illinois. In 1917, the Blues played as members of the Class B level Illinois-Indiana-Iowa League, hosting home games at Sportsman's Park. The league folded during the 1917 season with the Blues in last place.

My tribute to the grotesque Nemesis creature, inspired by the legendary roller coaster at Alton Towers in the UK. Nobody knows where it came from, nobody knows what it wants. There are theories and then there is the legend.

I had an opportunity to visit the Alton Mill Arts Center located in an historic mill. The Historic Alton Mill Art Centre, located in the village of Alton, Ontario is home to 20 studio artists galleries, heritage museum, café and unique shops. This stone mill complex was constructed by William Algie as ‘The Beaver Knitting Mill,’ (circa 1891). It was known nationwide for its fleece-lined long underwear. The Western Rubber Co. retooled the facility in 1935 to manufacture latex goods including party balloons and rubber gloves. Operations ceased in 1982 and the building sat neglected for a number of years. Restoration was undertaken in 1997 and completed in 2009 as The Alton Mill Art Centre. Chattanooga Neighborhoods

The Alton Brewery (also called the Jehle Brewery) was located on Upper Belle Street, north of present-day Lyons Glass, near the Alton Acres Housing Complex. This brewery was originally owned by John Fischbach and Jacob Hund. It was advertised as a brewery and malt shop on the “plank road,” north of the Alton city limits, and south of Buck Inn [North Alton]. Beer cellars or caves were dug to store their products as early as 1859. The beer in the caves was kept at the proper temperature while it fermented. The entrance had a brick arch, which led to a stone room, 40 feet x 40 feet, and 25 feet high at the peak. There were several rooms further back. These caves were discovered by William Threde, who later owned a brickyard on the property.
