I took this photograph on a stormy day at a time when the rain had abated. The road we were on took us past this iconic landmark on the Wiltshire Plains, so we stopped. Today, Stonehenge is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, but it's so old people really don't know why it was built. Sun worship is the popular thought and who is to say that is wrong? Certainly, the alignment of the stones seems to indicate an association with the Sun at the time of the summer solstice, but nobody really knows. What they do know is that some of the stones were probably brought there from south Wales; it's the closest known place in the UK where such stone exists. Much of the folklore that surrounds Stonehenge reflects a connection with the sky

The Hockey Hall of Fame was created in 1943 and its first inductees were selected in 1945. The first HHOF building was opened in 1961 on the Canadian National Exposition grounds and moved to its present location in 1993. Built in 1885, The Hall is located in the former Bank of Montreal which was the only building on the block to survive The Great Fire of Toronto in 1904. It was designated a Heritage Property by The City of Toronto in 1976. Constructed between 1858 and 1864 with a new wing built in 1958, The Old Don Jail at No 550 Gerrard St E in Toronto Canada was officially known as the Toronto Jail until 1977. The building was recently renovated and now serves as the administrative wing of a neighbouring health care facility. Founded in 1844, Knox is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church in Canada and confers doctoral degrees as a member school of the Toronto School of Theology. Constructed in 1931 the Horse Palace on the grounds of Exhibition Place in Toronto Canada is one of the finest examples of Art Deco architecture in the city. Built to support the equestrian events of the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, the building has 1,200 stalls for horses and other live stock and a main practice and exhibition ring under a cathedral style glass ceiling. The Horse Palace was designated a Heritage Property by The City Of Toronto in 1988. The Allen Lambert Galleria and Heritage Square was constructed after an invited design competition in 1987. The atrium is a six story high pedestrian thoroughfare that connects Bay St to the west and Yonge St to the east in the Toronto Canada financial district and is frequently used as a showcase for major photography and art exhibits. The University College Main Building at No 15 King's College Circle on the University Of Toronto campus. Constructed in 1853, the building was severely damaged by a fire that gutted the entire eastern wing and the college library in 1890. More than 33,000 books were destroyed in the college library but within two years, the library was replenished through donations. Originally captured on film in the winter of 1984, this is an image of Stickle Tarn with Pavey Ark beyond. The tarn, a lake that resides in a hanging valley above the Langdale Valley, is perhaps one of the most visited mountain tarns in the Lake District National Park, in England. The tarn is about 300–350 metres above the valley. The well-worn path leading up to the tarn follows Mill Ghyll, the tumbling stream that is the outflow from the tarn. The more intrepid hikers will then go around the tarn and ascend Pavey Ark, the mountainous cliff across from the tarn, which is about another 200 metres of ascent, and then on to Harrison Stickle which is off to the left. When done, a pint at one of the three pubs in the valley would be the reward.

This is a depiction of several skeletal trees, each ready to meet winter. The white sky stands in stark contrast with the branches of the trees as they trace their way across the image. The branches trace a filigree-like pattern that appears to fan out diagonally across the frame, reaching into every corner.

Constructed as a movie theatre in 1919, The Danforth Music Hall is a music venue and event theatre at 147 Danforth Ave in Toronto Canada. After many name and owner changes over the years, the building was designated a City Of Toronto Heritage Property in 1985. On a personal note, one of the best shows I ever saw (even after all this time) was The Clash in 1979 when the building was called The Rex Danforth Theatre. Founded in 1832, The Gooderham and Worts Distillery became the largest distillery in the world by the late 1860s. After a 2 year restoration between 2001 and 2003, the collection of 47 Victorian era buildings now serve as commercial and residential spaces, entertainment facilities and art galleries. This is the Stradun, the main street in Dubrovnik's old city, in the early evening. The tourists stroll along the polished stone pavement in search of a restaurant, a souvenir, or a memory of their time in this extraordinary, medieval city. In a row of buildings constructed between 1889 and 1893, Nos 232 - 236 Queen St E in The Moss Park area of Toronto Canada are now home to a book store, a glass repair and a butchers. The Gooderham Flatiron Building at No 49 Wellington Street East in Toronto Ontario was built by George Gooderham in 1891. The four and a half storey red brick building was constructed at a cost of $18,000 and predates New York’s more famous Flatiron building by 10 years. It was declared a historic site under the Ontario Heritage Act in 1975. Looking west on Front St towards the downtown core. The Fortress of Louisbourg is today a reconstruction of the fortress built by the French in the early to mid-1700s. The reconstruction, while not complete, is so extensive that it has the feeling of an old French town. The project was started in the 1960s. With the aid of the French government which supplied thousands of documents, it was possible to reconstruct many of the buildings almost exactly as they were originally built. The documentation included information about the people who lived there and in which houses they lived. With that information, re-enactments of the daily activities of these people are celebrated. This particular image was captured as I was about to leave.

Toronto Fire Station No 227 at 1904 Queen Street East in Toronto Canada was built in 1905 as TFD 17. Station 227, also known as The Kew Beach Fire Hall, originally had a single vehicle bay. In 1960 an addition was built on the west side of the original building. In 1957 an international competition was held for a design of a new city hall. A total of 520 designs were received from 42 different countries. The winner of the competition was Finnish architect Viljo Revell. In 1965 Toronto's fourth city hall opened and still serves as the home of the city's council. The 27 storey east tower and the 20 storey west tower surround the saucer shaped council chamber. The saddest part of the history of our current city hall is that Revell died of a heart attack at 54 years old just 10 months prior to the opening ceremonies and never got to see his vision completed.
