The idea to build a very very large TV and radio communication structure originated in 1968. After 5 years of planning, construction on the CN Tower began in 1973 and at a cost of $63,000,000, the 553.33 m (1,815.4 ft) tower was completed in 1976 and became the world's tallest free standing structure, a record it held for 34 years. After 3 years of planning and 10 years of construction, Toronto's third city hall was completed in 1899 and became home to the city council until 1966. Today the building serves as a court house for the Ontario Court of Justice and was designated a National Historic Site in 1989. The clock tower reflected of an adjacent office building. Annesley Hall at No 95 Queen's Park Crescent in Toronto Canada is a student residence as a part of Victoria College on the campus of the University of Toronto. Built in 1903 and renovated in 1988, the building was declared a National Historic Site of Canada in 1990. In 1957 an international competition was held for a design of a new city hall. A total of 520 designs were received from 42 different countries. The winner of the competition was Finnish architect Viljo Revell. In 1965 Toronto's fourth city hall opened and still serves as the home of the city's council. The 27 storey east tower and the 20 storey west tower surround the saucer shaped council chamber. The saddest part of the history of our current city hall is that Revell died of a heart attack at 54 years old just 10 months prior to the opening ceremonies and never got to see his vision completed.
