Vintage British Travel Poster: Dunluce Castle in Northern Ireland

Steam Dreams rail tour from Cardiff to London Paddington on 1st August 2019, pulled by B1 Mayflower and 44871 LMS Stanier Black Five. It’s not often a steam tour is a double header. Mayflower, an LNER Thompson Class B1 as captured here at sunset as she passes through Gloucestershire.

A black and white image of Great Western Prairie engine 2-6-2, number 5541 built in 1928 at Swindon and preserved on the Dean Forest Railway in Gloucestershire. This engine had undergone a nine year restoration and returned to service on the Dean Forest Railway on the 19th April 2014. Captured here on the first weekend in May in the spring sunshine, looking as good as the day she left the Swindon works over 85 years ago!

The Great Western Manor Locomotives were lighter utility engines used on both passenger and freight. Bradley Manor was built in 1939 and withdrawn from service in 1965.

The Great Western Railways roundel, or shirt button was used on Engines and rolling stock in the period between 1934 and 1942.

A black and white image of the picturesque Goathland Railway Station on the North Yorkshire Moors. Goathland was the home of the British TV program Heartbeat. The photograph has a British Railways Class 4MT locomotive arriving tender first with a train from Pickering.

A black and white image of Repton, a Southern Railway "V Class" - better known as the "Schools Class" as all locomotives were named after English public schools. The class was the most powerful 4-4-0 ( wheel arrangement) ever built in Europe. Repton spent some time on the Cape Breton Steam Railway in Canada before returning to Great Britain. Without the relevant token the train can't proceed along the single track sections. Engine 2857 was built in Swindon in 1918 and was in service until 1963. It could be 1965! A class 25 Sulzer Bo Bo in British Railways two tone green livery, pulls a rake of BR red coaches through lush green moorland in Yorkshire. BR Class 25 D7628 built by Beyer Peacock in Manchester in 1965 and named Sybilla in preservation is the locomotive in the photograph seen here on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.

The locomotives are Schools class 926 Repton and S15 Class 825. The day had started out dry, however when this train came passed it was raining cats and dogs! I believe that the rain adds to the atmosphere of this nostalgic image.

British Railways Standard Class 7 steam locomotive Britannia number 70000 departs Highley on the Severn Valley Railway in the Rain. The rain and the release of steam as the engine pulls away adding drama to this image. The standard class 7 is also known as the Britannia Class as Britannia was the first engine of 55 in this class.

There are many famous steam locos in this print, including 'Flying Scotsman', 'Mallard' and 'City of Truro'. You won't find another design including so many locos and as colourful as this one!
