Cernunnos Stag Tapestries

For Witches of all ages, shapes and genres, my Cernunnos stag design.

Cernunnos is the “Horned One”, a Celtic god associated with sexuality, fertility, the hunt, and the underworld. He was worshiped as the “lord of wild things” by the iron age Celts all across Europe as late as the first century, but his worship began centuries before that. Cernunnos is nearly always portrayed with animals, in particular the stag. He alternates with the goddess of the moon in ruling over life and death, continuing the cycle of death, rebirth and reincarnation.

The Horned God is coming for you

This design is based off of a panel from the famous Gundestrup Cauldron. The scene depicts the god-- often identified as Cernunnos-- surrounded by animals. I've recreated this design in my own style making a unique take on this Celtic/La Tene piece of art!

The sacred stag

This design is based off of a panel from the famous Celtic/La Tene style Gundestrup Cauldron. The scene depicts a god with antlers-- often identified as Cernunnos-- surrounded by various wild animals. I've recreated this design in my own style as a hand-carved block print then printed it by hand in black ink before scanning the print to make it a shirt design.

The legendary White Stag was related to the Celtic Belief . Related to the otherworld – hunting – protection , Earlier gods associated with the stag were also nature deities: Cernunnos, Fionn, Gwynn ap Nudd. memory of Odin/Thor- He also was the companion of many Gods/Goddesses/Saints .

Stags have played a prominent role in mythologies and folklore throughout history. Their speed, agility, strength, and virility was and is admired to this day. Stags are often portrayed as stewards of the forest and nature. Their antlers form a sort of crown on their head and many gods and legendary figures feature similar antlers on their heads indicating the prominent status the stag held throughout the ages. This artwork depicts two stags facing off against each other about to lock their powerful antlers creating an almost heraldic look to the piece.
