Founded in 1930, Dinoco Oil, formerly known as Dinoco Gasoline, is an international gas and oil company of fossil fuel owned by Tex Dinoco, and one of America's most popular and consumed products. Hussmann & Roper Freight Lines was founded in St. Louis, Missouri in 1927 as a general trucking interest. They were one of the first trucking companies to offer regular overnight service, eventually advertising themselves as 'the overnight, every night line.' Initially serving all of Missouri, and eventually all of the Midwest, by the time Hussmann & Roper was sold to a larger trucking company in 1963, they were operating multiple terminals and nationwide routes.

Brockway Motor Company was a builder of custom heavy-duty trucks in Cortland, New York, from 1912 to 1977. The company started out as Brockway Carriage Works in 1875 by William Brockway. His son, George Brockway, later turned the carriage building firm into a truck manufacturer in 1909. The first trucks were carriage-based high-wheelers, but Brockway quickly evolved their line and proved themselves as innovators in the heavy truck market. The company's beginning is widely recognized as the 1912 incorporation of the Brockway Motor Truck Company. Brockway enjoyed a first-rate reputation in the industry and their customer loyalty shown by repeat buyers was the best in the industry.

Paul Crouse spent most of his adult life in the trucking industry both as a driver and as a manager with midwest companies including ET Reed, Union Freightway, Wilson Forwarding, and eventually Brady Motor Freight. In 1941, Paul founded Crouse Cartage Company (CCC) in Denison, Iowa and proceeded to build up a considerable fleet along with 63 terminals stretching from the Midwest to the Southeast.

Thomas Jefferson Gay organized the Richardson-Gay Oil Company in Corsicana, Texas in 1903 with partner, W.D. Richardson, with a focus on refining oil. Gay sold his shares in the business in 1905 and moved to Little Rock, Arkansas, where he founded Gay Oil Company in 1907. Gay continued to refine crude oil and manufactured a range of motor oils, but also got into producing gasoline. In addition to wholesaling gas and oil to services stations, Gay also began opening his own branded gas stations, and by 1926, the Gay Oil Company was operating nine gas stations in Little Rock and North Little Rock. Gay operated his namesake oil company until his retirement in 1938, leaving his son to run the show.

Reimer Express Lines was founded in 1952 when 19-year-old Donald S. Reimer of Steinbach, Manitoba convinced his father and brothers to join him in starting a trucking company. Their original route was between Winnipeg and Windsor, Ontario, with Winnipeg as the head office. By December, Reimer added Windsor to Vancouver, and had extended to Toronto by 1956. In 1968 Reimer was acquired by Canadian conglomerate Neonex, but in 1971, the Reimer family bought the company back. Reimer continued to grow and expand through before ultimately being sold again in 1997 to Roadway, who themselves would be bought just six years later by Yellow. Yellow operated Reimer as an independent line until 2019, at which point the Reimer name was retired.

In 1928, the Zellerbach Paper Company merged with the Crown Willamette Paper Company to form publicly-traded Crown Zellerbach Corporation. Headquartered in San Francisco, California, the company had assets of nearly $100 million, over 350,000 acres of timber, and paper mills throughout the Pacific Coast capable of producing 1,450 tons of paper daily. It expanded steadily throughout the '30s and substantially during the second world war, when European paper manufacturers no longer exported to the United States. In 1947, it started producing glossy, coated paper for high-end magazines. In the '50s, Crown Zellerbach was the second-largest landholder in the American West, and in the '60s, they diversified and expanded internationally.

Mrs. Francis Edwards was a bookkeeper for a freight company in Birmingham who handled collections. After having to wait at the same trucking company each week, she told the owner that she should just buy the business so that it could be run properly. To her surprise, the owner called and asked if she was interested. Turns out, she was and in January 1946, she was president of her own trucking company. Starting with 10 trucks that came with the business, she positioned Eagle Motor Lines as a specialty carrier focused primarily on flatbed work. 20 years later, Eagle Motor Lines had 340 trucks and over 500 trailers, operating across nearly half of the USA with annual revenue approaching $20 million. Not bad for a bookkeeper, huh?

Founded in 1980, Dillon Transport provided dry bulk and liquid tanker services to the agriculture, building products, industrial and energy sectors. Dillon Logistics, which did business as Dillon Transport, was headquartered in Burr Ridge, Illinois and had over 340 drivers and 323 trucks at its peak and operated 10 terminals throughout the Southern and Midwestern United States.

International Transport, Inc. started out in Fargo, North Dakota in the early '50s, but relocated to Rochester, Minnesota after just a few years. Composed entirely of owner-operators, International Transport was the largest flatbed and heavy-haul trucking company in North America, and operated throughout the U.S. and Canada. International Transport put themselves up for sale in 1984, and were snapped up by a larger carrier. They continued to operate as International Transport until 1990, at which point they were rebranded with the purchasing company's name, and the International Transport name disappeared from the highways for good.

In 1946, investment banker Scribner Birlenbach decided that he wanted to get into the trucking business. He began his venture by purchasing a Los Angeles trucking company with 15 tractors and 22 trailers, calling it Transcon Lines, with a plan to turn it into a major transcontinental carrier. By 1962, Transcon had over 1,100 units covering over 14,000 route miles. In three decades time, Transcon had purchased 27 trucking companies, including Kramer-Consolidated Freight Lines in 1978, which made them a true coast-to-coast carrier. Transcon's work force was 3,829 people strong with 5,700 pieces of equipment and 117 terminals in 38 states as of 1981, but as the '80s marched on, Transcon's fortunes began to turn.

Red Ball Motor Freight Co. was founded in 1928 by Henry English in Lufkin, Texas and had an original service area encompassing Lufkin, Houston, and the towns along the route. Through a series of mergers and acquisitions over the years, Red Ball Motor Freight Co. expanded to become the sixth-largest common carrier trucking company in the nation. Like many of the great carriers of that era, Red Ball failed to meet the demands of a deregulated trucking industry after the Motor Carrier Act of 1980 was signed into law by President Carter, and filed for bankruptcy in April 1982.

Willig Freight Line was founded in 1923 and quickly proved to be a pioneer in California trucking. Over the next 40 years, Willig remained a modestly successful truck-load carrier while keeping the majority of its operations within the Golden State. In 1965, CPA Eric K. Anderson purchased Willig for a reported $2 million, immediately changing the operation from a TL carrier to an LTL operation and began overnight service from LA to San Francisco. Over the next several years, profits increased by 20% per year as Willig expanded throughout the west with new terminals and expanded service. By 1986 revenues increased to $62.6 million a year and became one of the US's top 100 carriers, but not a decade later, Willig would be defunct.
