KLKE was a low power radio station broadcasting on 1230 AM out of the town of Del Rio in southwestern Texas from the early ’80s well into the ’90s. They featured a ‘continuous country’ format that played traditional and outlaw country music 24/7.

The 28th National Square Dance Convention was held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on June 28, 29, and 30 of 1979. While I have no idea what happens at square dance conventions, committees setting rules to limit the number of consecutive do-si-dos and unbridled square dancing on levels most of us can't even begin to imagine come to mind. Throughout the '80s these would pop up in thrift shops and the one and only Lemmy scored one in '82 and it quickly became one of his favorite tees.

The Louvin Brothers were an American musical duo composed of brothers Ira and Charlie Louvin who got their start in the 1940s as a gospel duo. In addition to gospel music, the brothers would go on to write and perform country and bluegrass as well, releasing more than a dozen albums between 1956 and 1963. Ira played mandolin and generally sang lead vocals in the tenor range, while Charlie played rhythm guitar and offered supporting vocals in a lower pitch. They helped popularize the vocal technique of close harmony in country and country-rock. Although the brothers are remembered today for their musical talent, they are best known for the unusual cover used for their 1959 album, Satan Is Real, designed by Ira Louvin.

Twitty City was an entertainment complex in Hendersonville, Tennessee that was the home of country singer Conway Twitty from its opening in 1982 until his death in 1993. He built the country music entertainment complex, at a cost of over $3.5 million, which also homes on the property for Twitty's mother and his children. The complex was famous for its lavish Christmas decorations, meticulous landscaping, and expansive gardens. Twitty City remained a popular tourist stop throughout the '80s and into the early '90s, and was shut down in 1994 following a year-long tribute show called 'Final Touches.' The complex was eventually auctioned off and converted into a Christian music venue, which still operates as such today.
