TERRA AUSTRALIS INCOGNITA: Weird and Wonderful Creatures I’ve been fascinated with ancient maps and mythical creatures since early childhood. When I’ve learned that Redbubble and State Library Victoria are having challenge named “Create Art History” with “Weird and Wonderful Creatures” theme, I’ve decided to participate. Therefore, I created fantasy map with sea monsters, mythical creatures and fictional islands. I chose map of the Australian State of Victoria where State Library is located and named it “Terra Australis Incognita”. This is actually map from my first entry, but in different color, since I liked blue very much on apparel and home décor. It is Aspidochelone - who rises to the surface from the depths of the sea, and entices unwitting sailors with its island appearance and then pull them under the ocean. Water Lily MerLady, this fantastic creature is a blossomed mermaid that guards the surroundings of her domains and punishes whoever defies her power with the loneliness of eternal non corresponding love. This print has been designed by Australian artist and designer Annalee Beer using Botanical images made available from the Victoria State Library alongside a skull made available by the British Museum. The combination of these elements creates an intriguing effect. Each has been given a modern treatment, turning the images into vectors and adding some colours to bring in a contemporary feeling.

I am so happy to take part in a new Redbubble Callenge that l start in collaboration with State Library Victoria. This artwork will be first one and dedicated to botanical theme and I am working no with other one on Magic theme. Oil on Canvas 120x90, 2017.

As an Australian artist who loves to work with florals I've taken the opportunity to create a piece of Botanical themed work. Birds of paradise are beautiful and fun flowers. This piece uses these bold florals in a contemporary print.
