The Wakefield Oil Company was founded by Charles Cheers Wakefield in 1899. The brand "Castrol" originated after researchers added castor oil to their lubricant formulations. In 1966, Castrol was acquired by company Burmah Oil, which was renamed Burmah-Castrol. Burmah-Castrol was purchased by London-based multinational BP in 2000.

Harry Sinclair had his eye on a rival, Prairie Oil and Gas – a Rockefeller interest as big as Sinclair Consolidated. Sinclair held a half interest in the Ajax pipeline, which was jeopardizing the entire Prairie system by siphoning off most of their pipeline traffic. But in 1930, Sinclair sold its half to Standard Oil Company, along with its 50 percent interest in the Sinclair Crude Oil Purchasing Company, for $72.5 million cash.

During September 1919, Harry Sinclair restructured Sinclair Oil and Refining Corporation, Sinclair Gulf Corporation, and 26 other related entities into Sinclair Consolidated Oil Corporation. In 1932, this new entity was renamed Consolidated Oil Corporation. In 1943, it was renamed Sinclair Oil Corporation. Near the beginning of the Great Depression, Sinclair sold the remaining interest in its pipeline subsidiary to Standard Oil Company (Indiana) for US$72.5 million (Standard Oil had purchased a 50% interest in the pipeline subsidiary in 1921). With these funds, including an additional US$33.5 million from an additional common stock issue, Sinclair retired several promissory notes and prepared to weather the Depression.

The "Amoco" lead-free gasoline was sold at American's stations in the eastern and southern U.S. alongside American Regular gasoline, which was a leaded fuel. Lead-free Amoco was introduced in the Indiana Standard marketing area in 1970. The Red Crown Regular and White Crown Premium (later Gold Crown Super Premium) gasolines marketed by parent company Standard Oil (Indiana) in its prime marketing area in the Midwest before 1961 also contained lead.

In 1949 E. C. Joullian formed Westoc Oil and Gas and began construction of a pipeline to supply natural gas from the West Edmond gas field to Oklahoma Gas and Electric Company’s (OG&E) new Mustang Power plant. On May 5, 1950, Westoc began operations of Mustang’s first pipeline. In 1951, E.C. Joullian formed Rock Creek Oil and Gas to build a pipeline from Sohio Oil Company’s Elmore gas plant to OG&E’s new Arbuckle power plant and this pipeline became operational in April 1953. During the remainder of the decade Westoc was merged into a new company called Oklahoma Resources Development Company which then merged with Rock Creek Oil and Gas to form Mustang Fuel Corporation.

Founded in 1916 and headquarterd in Taft, Sunset Oil Co. marketed Sunset Gasoline and Rainbow Oil. The company was sold in 1958 to Wilshire Oil Co., a subsidiary of Gulf Oil.

Wm. Penn was a gas brand of Canfield Oil Company of Cleveland, Ohio. SOHIO purchased it in 1945, but the Wm. Penn brand remained. In the 1970s, BP purchased SOHIO and rebranded some BP stations in the eastern U.S. to Wm. Penn. The brand remained until around 1990, when they were rebranded to BP.

In 1925, the sale of the Hawkeye Oil Company led to the launch of a new brand of motor oil and gasoline--Red Hat. The short-lived company operated filling stations and sold motor oil to customers. Today, the company's iconic patriotic top hat logo is still fondly remembered by fans of automotive history.

John and Luke Hancock started the Pure Oil of Minneapolis in the early 1900's. They sold out to The Pure Oil Company of Ohio in 1920. Luke Hancock continued to work for Pure Oil, and John Hancock started the Hancock Oil Company in Minneapolis. John Hancock died in 1929, at which time the Minneapolis Hancock Oil stations were sold to Phillips.

Grizzly Gas was a Montana Brand of gasoline that was eventually bought out by Carter then Exxon.

Associated Oil Company was an American oil and gas company once headquartered in San Francisco, California and served much of the Pacific West Coast, including Hawaii, as well as the Orient and merged with the Tidewater Oil Company in 1938. Beginning in 1934, Associated Oil Company commissioned a series of photographs to be taken to record the progress of construction on the Golden Gate Bridge and San-Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge projects.The projects were of special interest to the Associated Oil Company because they provided Flying A Gasoline and Cycol Motor Oil almost entirely for the projects.

The Northwest Refining Company from Cut Bank opened a new bulk plant in Shelby Montana, featuring Grizzly gasoline, which is widely accepted by motorists in northern Montana, and is made entirely from Montana crude oil. Location of the new plant is south of the railroad tracks, directly across from the Sullivan Hotel. A. J. Wilcox is the distributor of the gasoline. This company was sold to Carter Oil a subsidiary of Standard Oil Co. of New Jersey in 1944.

Amoco began in 1889 as Standard Oil of Indiana, John D. Rockefeller's company. By 1912 it was known as Amoco. In 1998 Amoco and BP merged.

Atlantic was founded as the Atlantic Petroleum Storage Company in 1866 in the then-fledgling oil business. In 1874, the company, now known as Atlantic Refining, was purchased by John D. Rockefeller and integrated as part of Standard Oil. The acquisition gave Rockefeller a major presence on the East Coast in his growing empire. In 1886, after acquiring many other oil companies, the Standard Oil Trust organized territories for their companies. Atlantic's territory covered the entire state of Delaware, the southern half of New Jersey, and the southeasternmost corner of Pennsylvania, essentially giving Atlantic the entire Philadelphia area.

Sav'n Sam's Service Stations were found in Northern California. Owned by an Independent Jobber, no longer in the retail business. They carried 3 grades of gasoline, Regular, Ethyl, and Super Ethyl.

Homer Johnson held a job with the Indian Oil Company as the treasurer and ended up in Lawrenceville, Illinois, where he and his brothers began the process of starting up Johnson Oil. For $6,000,000, Gaseteria Oil Company purchased Johnson Oil Company in 1956. The Illinois and Michigan stations were converted to the Gaseteria or Bonded Brand, and the Oklahoma assets were sold off to Deep Rock. In 1957, Russell Williams, the owner of Gaseteria was killed in a plane crash. This tragic turn of events forced the sell of Gaseteria to Standard's Oklahoma Oil Company Division where the stations were then branded Oklahoma. In 1960, the stations were finally branded Enco under Standard Oil of New Jersey.

Amoco Corporation (Standard Oil Company until 1985) is a global chemical and oil company that was founded in 1889, around a refinery located in Whiting, Indiana, United States. Originally part of the Standard Oil Trust, it focused on gasoline for the new automobile market. Incorporated in Indiana, it was headquartered in Chicago. In the 1930s, it absorbed the American Oil Company, The combined corporation operated or licensed gas stations under both the Standard name and the Amoco name (the latter from American oil company) and its logo using either name became a red, white and blue oval with a torch in the center.

Oil exploration in Michigan began with a discovery at Saginaw Field in 1925. As the oil there started to dwindle, it looked as if Michigan would soon be dry and no longer of interest to companies. But a new well found in Muskegon Field officially put the state on the map. The Muskegon Oil Company (now known as the Muskegon Development Company) was founded in 1926 by Charles Myler and Stanley Daniloff. Musgo was the official gasoline brand of the company. The company was only around about two years, so Muskgo signs today are very rare and highly sought after.

White Star developed a chain of gas stations WHITE STAR GASOLINE and had its own refinery, and was eventually acquired by the Vacuum Oil Company in 1930, which later became Mobil.

A massive meteor shower destroys the orbiting Space Shuttle Atlantis, before entering the atmosphere and bombarding New York City. NASA discovers that the meteors were pushed out of the asteroid belt by a rogue comet that jarred loose a Texas-sized asteroid that will impact Earth in 18 days, causing an extinction level event that will wipe out all life on the planet.
