The Magnolia Petroleum Company was an early twentieth century petroleum company in Texas founded on April 24, 1911 by the Sealy family of Galveston, as a consolidation of several earlier companies. Standard Oil of New York (Socony) exchanged its stock for all of the Magnolia stock (except seven shares for the Directors) in December 1925 though it continued to operate as an affiliate of Socony. Socony merged with Vacuum Oil Company in 1931, becoming Socony-Vacuum Oil Company. Magnolia Petroleum continued to operate as a subsidiary of Socony-Vacuum. In 1959, Magnolia was fully incorporated into the Mobil division of Socony-Vacuum, which later changed its name to Socony Mobil and, ultimately to Mobil Oil Corporation.

If I had just uploaded this photograph as I saw it then you would have dismissed it and passed it by but as you are here and reading this then I assume the selective color popping has done the trick. This can be quite time consuming as you have to use the eraser tool on Photoshop to rub out the top layer to reveal the colour below on the parts that you want to highlight in color. While certified used cars are quite common today, the 'OK Used Cars' program was Detroit's attempt at combatting negative opinions about buying a used car by creating the first certification program. 'OK Used Cars' had completed a series of tests before being certified, including a thorough inspection, complete servicing, and several points of reconditioning. The certified vehicles would be added to the lot with a warranty included, something that was previously unheard of with a used car. The program was a success, and would grow and evolve, but by the '50s, the 'OK Used Cars' sign could be found at car lots in everywhere.

The Texas Fuel Company was founded in 1902 in Beaumont, Texas, by Joseph S. Cullinan, Thomas J. Donoghue, and Arnold Schlaet upon the discovery of oil at Spindletop. The company was not set up to drill wells or to produce crude oil, so Cullinan organized Producers Oil Company in 1902, as a group of affiliated investors to fund the needed infrastructure. With their wells running at full tilt, Texas Fuel opened their own service stations featuring their own gasoline. In 1932, they introduced high performance Fire Chief Gasoline, followed by Sky Chief Gasoline in 1938, as some of the first higher-octane fuel options.

Lion Oil Company was established in 1922. Thomas Harry (Colonel) Barton was instrumental in the development of the company. In 1955, Lion Oil was sold to the Monsanto Company along with what is now El Dorado Chemical Company. Lion Oil is the only oil refinery Monsanto has owned. Lion Oil was later sold by Monsanto to Tosco. In 1985, Lion was struggling and on the verge of shutting down and was sold by Tosco to a partnership of Ergon Refining of Jackson, Mississippi, and a group of local investors. This is how it acquired the oil refinery in El Dorado, Arkansas.
