Hartland is a rocky outcrop of land on the north-western tip of the Devon coast in England. Hartland marks the western limit (on the English side) of the Bristol Channel with the Atlantic Ocean continuing to the west. This location was known to the Romans as the "promontory of Hercules".

Hartland point, Devon, was where the Johanna was came ashore on the 31st December 1982. Hartland Point lighthouse was opened 1st July 1874 and in 1984 the light house was automated. This is a beautiful view point of Hartlands Points rugged coastline and in the distance you can see Lundy Island.

Hartland Point, North Devon, England Number of views as of 20th November 2018 = 1225. Numerous ships have been wrecked on the dangerous and sometimes fog-bound cliffs around Hartland Point as the mighty Atlantic pounds the shoreline, exerting a pressure estimated at up to 4 tons per square foot. The lighthouse here was built by Trinity House in 1874, to guide shipping entering the broad mouth of the Bristol Channel. The awesome 325 foot high rocky outcrop towering above the lighthouse was known to the Romans as the 'Promontory of Hercules'. Lundy Island can be seen on the horizon a dozen miles away. The weather was starting to close in giving the sea beautiful blue and green tones which contrasted against the white lighthouse and dark grey clouds that had just starting to roll in with people canoeing just beyond the lighthouse. Hartland point is a picturesque place to visit and it changes every time you visit it.

The Abbey was founded in AD 1157 and lies in a narrow valley leading to a beautiful but isolated section of the North Devon coast. After the dissolution of the monasteries in 1539, the abbey came into the hands of William Abbott, the Sergeant of Henry VIII's wine cellar. It has since been passed down through the generations and has effectively remained in the same family for almost 500 years (though in that time their have been three female heirs) and it has never been sold. Hartland Abbey (Devon, England) was founded in AD 1157, in a narrow valley leading to a beautiful but isolated section of the coast.
