The Jacob's Ladder design is inspired by the original 1990 psychological horror movie directed by Adrian Lyne and written by Bruce Joel Rubin. Tim Robbins stars as Jacob Singer, a Vietnam vet, now working as a postal worker, whose life begins to slip out of control as he experiences bizarre flashbacks of his earlier life and terrifying hallucinations. A cult classic, Jacob's Ladder also starred Elizabeth Pena, Danny Aiello and a very young Macauley Culkin.

Jacob's Ladder, Sidmouth, Devon Jacob's Ladder (in the coastal town of Sidmouth, East Devon, England) is a series of wooden steps leading up to Connaught Gardens from Jacob's Ladder beach and its red cliffs. Connaught Gardens date from around 1820. They were named after the Duke of Connaught, the third son of Queen Victoria who officially opened the gardens in 1934, at the age of 84. A ladder, seemingly to nowhere. I was reminded of Jacob’s dream whereby a ladder appears, a reminder of heaven above, and of the promise that exile will end. The tree, gnarled and ancient, also put me in mind of biblical gardens, of olives and jasmine, of hot desert winds, of red rocks that echo the howl of the jackal. The courtyard envelops us in shade, above a glorious sky of blue, and below the terracotta colours of the sandy walls. The tree is rich in olive and yellow hues, the wood almost pink.

This is one of my later works, It features some characters that appear in many of my paintings. I had a vivid dream one night about souls rising up to Heaven in the form of wispy vapor like figures. They were kind of elongating like the supposed spaghettification effect of a black hole.
