This great blue heron paused for a few moments to hunt for dinner near a yellow rowing tender at the Lopez Island Marina. This well-used, vivid yellow skiff casts a clear reflection in the Pacific Ocean. Lopez Island is one of more than a hundred islands in the San Juan Island archapeligo, and its boating culture is well-loved by its residents and tourists alike, not to mention the hungry shorebirds looking for an evening meal.
