Rothschild's Giraffe, Giraffa camelopardalis rothschildi. Lake Nakuru National Park, Kenya, East Africa. Feeding on Acacia late afternoon. Living in very few areas of Africa these giraffes are endangered. The population is potentially close to meeting the population threshold for Critically Endangered under criterion C, depending on the number of individuals, if any, that survive in south Sudan. There are only about 700 in the wild. They have similar markings to the Reticulated Giraffe but are characterised by unpatterned legs, which looks like they are wearing knee-high white socks. A pair of Secretarybirds in the early morning mist, grooming after waking up at the top of an acacia tree. The Secretarybird or Secretary Bird ( Sagittarius serpentarius ) is a large, mostly terrestrial bird of prey. It is instantly recognizable having an eagle like body on crane like legs which increases the bird’s height to around 1.3 m,(4 ft) tall. Lake Nakura National Park, Kenya, East Africa. The Rothschild’s Giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis rothschildi) is one of the most endangered giraffe subspecies with only a few hundred members in the wild. This one was seen and photographed at Lake Nakuru National Park, Kenya, East Africa. The Rothschild’s subspecies is paler than other sub-species, the orange-brown patches are less jagged and sharp in shape and the connective channel is of a creamier hue compared to that seen on the Reticulated Giraffe. In addition, the Rothschild Giraffe displays no markings on the lower leg, giving the impression that it is wearing white stockings. A herd of female Impala, Aepyceros melampus, stand stock still as their early morning reverie is observed, Lake Nakuru National Park, Kenya, East Africa. The name impala comes from the Zulu language meaning "gazelle". They are found in savannas and thick bushveld in Kenya, Tanzania, Swaziland, Mozambique, northern Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, southern Angola, northeastern South Africa and Uganda. Marabou Stork, Leptoptilos crumeniferus, known as the undertaker bird. The Marabou stork is 4 to 5 feet, 1.15 to 1.5 m high. The wing span is close to 9 feet, 3 m. The marabou storks head is nearly bald and scab encrusted. This makes it cleaner for the marabou stork to eat carrion without getting its feathers blood soaked. A pendulous flesh colored gular sac hangs below the throat when inflated and indicates sexual maturity.
