The fictional 1933 expedition was the follow up journey to Antarctica after the events of the Pabodie Expedition of 1930/31 which was detailed in Lovecraft's 'At the Mountains of Madness'. The ship the S.S. Gabrielle, carried the Expedition to Antarctica.
