The castle of Bourtzi in the bay of Nafplio, Greece

Nafplio (Argolis, Peloponnese, Greece) , is not just a perfect destination for romantic "escapes" from Athens, but also a town with great history and great architectonic importance. In the old part of the town you can see some great examples of Venetian architecture, some Islamic monuments from the Ottoman Era and some beautiful Neoclassical buildings. You can also see 3 beautiful castles , Bourtzi, on the little island that you can see in the middle of the Gulf, Akronafplia on the small peninsula that you can see in the center of the photo and the magnificent Palamidi , from where I took the photo. To reach there I had to climb the 999 stairs that connect the town with the castle. I stood there for a couple of hours to take some sunset ...

Nafplio (or Nafplion) is a seaport town in the Peloponnese in Greece that has expanded up the hillsides near the north end of the Argolic Gulf. The town was the first capital of modern Greece, from the start of the Greek Revolution in 1821 until 1834.
