Flag of Edinburgh Napier University

Drawn in 2b pencil at Napier University in 2008 in a building that no longer exists. A former Library at the old campus building in Sighthill Edinburgh was used as the Art studio. Open roof windows meant the great space had plenty of natural light and I undertook this drawing in two afternoons of a Rubber plant partly starved of water! I have added digital colour to the pencil and as the original is A2 in size I scanned in sections resulting in a fair bit of banding! I've left the banding in because I didn't want to alter the pencil shading. The result is a rough approximation of the original, hope you like!!

After a devastating earthquake in the early 1900s, Napier was rebuilt in the fashion of the time. This has created a snapshot of the 1920's, a beautiful time of style an fashion.

An aerial view of Napier University at Craighouse Campus, Edinburgh, Scotland. A fabulous set of buildings close to the central district of Morningside, with its numerous shops, cafes and bars. Craighouse campus, set in woods and parkland, is home to Music, the arts and social sciences. Craighouse currently houses part of the School of Creative Industries with Communication Arts and Music courses based here. The campus is also home to many service departments including the University Principal’s Office. Craighouse is one of eight Napier campus sites spread over Edinburgh.

This is part two of a three-part series. In Napier New Zealand there are six weatherboard houses facing the sea. These buildings have been called "the six sisters" This drawing is of two of the six houses. Maybe there are more to come in this series. The `Six Sisters` is the name given to these 1890s Victorian houses on Napier`s Marine Parade. Apparently, they were built by an architect who wanted a two-story house for each of his daughters. They are among the few survivors of the 1931 earthquake. These houses do not look like this in my drawing as a result of the earthquake. They look like this because I do not like drawing straight lines.
