This majestic peak in the Himalayas is called Machapuchare, also known as “Fish Tail Mountain.” At 22,943 feet it’s considerably less tall than Mt. Everest, but this mountain is definitely in illustrious company–legendary peaks such as Annapurna (which actually has three summits) and Manaslu, both in the “8,000-meter club,” are not far away. If you’ve read National Geographic for a couple of years or even been to an IMAX movie you’ve probably heard a lot about those mountains, along with Everest and the others, being climbed frequently. The deep valleys of Nepal with fast flowing rivers, were a serious problem for communication and travel. A recent Government initiative has provided hundreds of suspension bridges to help local people keep in touch. Three out of the ten highest mountains in the world — Dhaulagiri, Annapurna I and Manaslu — are within a linear distance of 50 km from the city. Due to its proximity to the Annapurna mountain range the city is also a base for trekkers undertaking the Annapurna Circuit. Near the lake is well developed for tourists with many hotels, restaurants and expensive shops. While polluted the lake is pretty especially round sunset. Shanti Stupa in Pokhara is the first World Peace Pagoda in Nepal and seventy-first pagoda built by Nipponzan-Myōhōji in the world. The pagoda is 115 feet tall and 344 feet in diameter. The white pagoda has two tiers for tourists and religious visitors to circumambulate. The second tier displays four statues of the Buddha presented as a souvenirs from different countries: ‘Dharmacakra Mudra’ from Japan, ‘Bodh Gaya’ from Sri Lanka, ‘Kushinagar’ from Thailand and 'Lumbini' from Nepal. Each statue represents important events related to the Buddha and were named according to where they took place. Some parts of the lake are used as caged fisheries. The Begnas lake area has a number of swampy areas around it, many of which have been converted to paddy fields day by day. The mountains in the distance are, of course, The Himalayas. The Newari woman will row you round the lake if you wish.
