Martial arts films have been around about as long as motion picture cameras themselves, though the '80s saw a new subset of the genre rise to popularity. Ninja movies, based on the Shinobi covert agents of feudal Japan, took movie theaters and home video by storm. Typically dressed in all black with only a slit for their eyes, ninjas were equally proficient in stealth tactics and extreme fighting techniques. If you were a fan of ninja movies during this time, odds are you fell into one of two camps: Team Dudikoff: The fans of Michael Dudikoff and the American Ninja films, or, Team Kosugi: The fans of Sho Kosugi and the Revenge of the Ninja films series.
