Evening skies over Runswick Bay, a picturesque North Yorkshire Village set beneath cliffs between the towns of Whitby and Saltburn on the Yorkshire coast. The white thatch coastguard cottage on the edge of the sea is instantly recognisable. Ruswick Bay beach was recently chosen as beach of the year.

The last rays of sun casting shadows and lighting up the cliffs above Runswick Bay on the North Yorkshire coast. With its sheltered bay and sandy beach, Runswick Bay is a popular holiday destination close to the North York Moors.

The sandy beach, which once provided anchorage for brightly coloured fishing boats, is now a family favourite for rock pooling, fossil hunting and coastal walks, where you can admire the breathtakingly stunning sea views.

I'm not sure how old the thatched cottage at the bottom of the cliffs in Runswick Bay, North Yorkshire has been there but with rising sea levels its future must be of some concern. The cottage is an icon of Runswick Bay and instantly recognisable to anyone that has visited the small, historic fishing village on the North Yorkshire coast

This is a rare change for me in that it is an abstract work but inspired by a close-up photograph that I took of the cliffside at Rusnwick Bay on the North Yorkshire Coast. The North Yorkshire Coast is one of my favourite places to visit and, of course to paint. This acrylic work shows Runswick Bay a popular spot for dog-walkers and fossil hunters alike. The subtle colours will work anywhere and the piece almost has the feel of a watercolour.

Sandsend Beach Sandsend beach is popular with fossil hunters, fishermen and walkers. In summer an area of the beach is zoned off for swimming. A café, gift shop and pub can be found close to the beach. The rocks on this lovely beach make the perfect foreground interest for a landscape photograph.
