Scarabs are associated with the Egyptian god, Khepri because it was Khepri that pushed the sun across the sky. The scarab beetle became an ancient Egyptian symbol for rebirth, the ability to be reborn. Each day the sun disappeared, always to rise again and be reborn the following day. from the middle kingdom onwards scarabs were popular in amulets & other jewellery. A June bug! These big heavy red-brown beetles show up in Maine almost exactly on June 1st every summer. You can hear them every night thunking their big hard bodies against the windows as long as the lights are lit, and the sound brings happy summer vibes, rather than being annoying. As a kid, I loved catching them.
