It is a member of the salmonoid family and spawn in rivers across there native range. Unlike salmon who can only spawn once, steelhead may return to the ocean, and come back up stream several times for spawning season.

Wild or Hatchery?

I love the rich colors of brown trout. This is my acrylic painting of a trout in a cold, dark stream along with other fish near the bottom. They are still close enough to the surface to see any flies landing on top of the water.

It is a member of the salmonoid family. The freshwater form of the steelhead trout is the rainbow trout. The difference between these forms of the species is that steelhead migrate to the ocean and return to freshwater tributaries to spawn, whereas rainbow trout do not leave freshwater. In the Pacific Northwest it is considered part of the local salmon family.

About 5 minutes into Season 15, Episode 6 of Supernatural, we find that Castiel has been lying low in Jenny Lake, Wyoming, spending time fishing on Dean's advice. He stops by Simmzy's Bait and Tackle to get some supplies and stumbles onto a case after learning that a missing kid was pulled from the lake, drained of his blood, and that another was now missing. Turns out this was what he needed to get back into saving people, hunting things, the family business.

When gold was discovered in the East Kootenays of British Columbia in 1863, prospectors from all over the West surged northward. Edwin Bonner established a ferry in 1864 where the trail crossed the broad Kootenai River. Edwin sold his ferry business in 1875, but the location retained his name, later becoming The Village of Bonners Ferry when it was formally established in 1893. For hunters, anglers, and wildlife lovers, the area is a year-round home to whitetail deer with frequent visits by mule deer, elk, and moose and literally thousands of migratory waterfowl as well as upland game birds, and hundreds of songbirds. The river itself provides good cutthroat and rainbow trout fishing as well as mountain whitefish and rare species.
