Another bug, another flower! We had a nice picnic lunch in the park today and a ladybug joined us so I was inspired to draw one

Beetles are a group of insects that form the order Coleoptera, in the superorder Endopterygota. Their front pair of wings are hardened into wing-cases, elytra, distinguishing them from most other insects. The Coleoptera, with about 400,000 species, is the largest of all orders, constituting almost 40% of described insects and 25% of all known animal life-forms; new species are discovered frequently.

Featured 11/7/14 in Art Universe Sorry for the perhaps unnecessary use of Latin in the title - I suppose I could have called this "a bunch of beetles", but I just thought this alternative sounded a bit classier. Anyway, the colors and shapes reminded me of a collection of june bugs and other colorful members of the largest group of insects (the coleoptera comprise more species than any other group in the animal kingdom, as discussed below in theological terms). Created in Mandelbulb 3D v.1.8.9 ("M3D") starting with parameters from Teaser 15 - Lifepool by viperv6 (see below). Additional work, including scale up and final render, in GIMP v.2.8. blue death feigning beetles are a kind of darkling beetle from the deserts of the southwestern united states. they have a waxy coating that gives them their blue color. when they get scared, they fall over and play dead. they're also known as ironclad beetles, because their exoskeleton is super strong. they love dry conditions, eating fruit, and hiding under pieces of wood or rocks. i think they're really cute!
