Cuxhaven Beach At Low Tide North Sea Pillows

A sunny day at Cuxhaven beach during low tide, which is very special at the North Sea, because the water is just gone for a couple of hours. During that time you can take a walk across the mudflats to the island Neuwerk or you take a horse-drawn carriage to go there. The German North Sea and Baltic Sea coasts are also famous for their roofed wicker beach chairs. Canon EOS 70D, 1/640 s, f8, 61 mm, ISO 100.

A boat lies high and dry on the beach at Conwy, North Wales as it is now low tide. Here the river ends its journey to the Irish Sea having begun life on the Migneint Moor, 34 miles away. Across the estuary is the bulk of the Great Orme and behind us is the toiwn of Conwy dominated by Edward I's massive castle. This image has been finished as a digital pencil drawing.

It's hard not to be amazed by such beauty! I am so used to seeing Dunlins in flocks of hundreds and thousands in their non-breeding/winter plumage, that to encounter a solitary member of the species is a bit puzzling. S/he was in full breeding regalia, and in no particular hurry to fly north for the summer. We almost missed seeing this peep--so intent on photographing the 20 Greater Scaups much further out from shore--that it was many moments before I realized that this Dunlin was quite calmly "pacing" us some 6-8 feet away on the shoreline! Being under great light and in such close proximity to this beauty enabled me to get a good look at that black belly patch and the wonderful russet brown feathers on its head and back!
