The Bowtie 327-cubic inch V8 originated with the small-block family of engines that first appeared in 1955 with a 265 cubic inch power plant. Following with a 283 cubic inch version that appeared in 1957, the mighty 327-inch small block made its debut in 1962. Although the 327 was eventually superseded by the 350 across the entire product line, the intermediate displacement 327 was used in just about every model on the market between 1962 and 1969. During its eight-year run, the potent 327 became known among small-block aficionados as the “mighty mouse" as it was extremely compact, highly efficient, and very powerful.

Bill Hays' claim to fame was, without question, his high performance racing clutches, but in the early '70s, he began toying with ignition systems. Legend has it that Bill wanted to simply call his new venture Hays Ignition, but was unable to, because of contractual obligations he had with another national brand. This led to the launch of Hays Stinger Ignition, which was named after the actual product he had come up with – The Stinger. These ignition systems were built to run with high horsepower, high compression engines, and could rule the drag strip all day long without fail. While they haven't been produced for decades, there are still plenty of used and new setups out there for sale, and just as many still on the street today.

One of the essential components to a successful drag strip run is starting-line grip, which is best achieved after performing one or more burnouts to heat up the tires. Also called anti-roll systems, launch controllers, or staging locks, line locks are crucial components for drag racers. Once activated, they lock up the front brakes independently of the rear brakes, so you’re ready to perform a tire-smoking burnout, or remain staged until the lights turn green, and you unleash the beast.

Great Lakes Dragaway is a quarter mile dragstrip in the Town of Paris, Kenosha County, near Union Grove, Wisconsin. The drag strip opened in 1955, making it the 2nd oldest continuously operating drag strip in the country after Inyokern Airport closed. #1 is Redding Raceway in California, which opened in 1953. In the early days of the track, races were started by a flagman (before drag strip Christmas Trees) and cars sometimes raced four abreast.

Sensing a distinct need for high-performance street and strip tires during the Golden Era of muscle cars, Formula Tires was founded in 1968 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. To fill that need, Formula designed their Formula 1 Super Stock line, creating an instant hit that gave day two muscle cars the drag racing look with bold white sidewall lettering and a tight tread pattern that gave a racing slick appearance. Of course, these tires weren't just about good looks - they were built to perform as well, and hooked up exceptionally well on the strip, but also handled great when cruising the boulevard.

Drag race starting times by the flagman in the early days were not uniformly accurate, so a new timing system could hopefully be developed to correct the problems and ensure a fair race. As the story goes, Chrondek Corporation founder Oilver Riley was approached in 1962 with an idea of a step-light countdown system. LaVerne, California-based Chrondek was already working on portable timing systems before this proposal, and began refocusing their efforts to include what is now known as the standard Christmas Tree, which was debuted by Chrondek at the 1963 U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Atco Dragway was built in 1959, The first racers (Motor Masters hot rod club ) started at the top end racing towards the starting line. They then helped open the track on Memorial day weekend 1960 as the official opening date. Officially Opened Memorial Day weekend 1960, it is the oldest drag strip in New Jersey. The track is also sanctioned by the NHRA, the largest sanctioning body in drag racing. Atco Dragway has held over 265 events in one year, making it one of the busiest tracks in the country.
