Art by Duy Truong. A gentle breeze blew from the west. It would not last long as angry clouds were billowing over the mountain peaks. William Tell took careful aim.... He tested the air once again and then focused upon the apple. He released the latch and the arrow sailed across the square and split the apple in half. Walter picked up the two halves and ran into the arms of his father. The villagers embraced one another and cheered as their prayers had been answered.

Art by Duy Truong The Wurtherington Diary. Duy has given Tammy a new hairdo with the ponytails. We landed in the center of Kakuna. Chief Wanakuka and his wife, Lanacua came running down the stairway to greet us and offered us hugs and kisses. Many Kakuna elves gathered round. Chief Wanakuka said, "We are happy to see you! What brings you here today?" I explained that we all needed outfits and we were quickly ushered into a fine haberdashery. Zeke and Cedric loved standing in front of the mirror admiring their new look. We purchased Bavarian clothing that would suit our time traveling adventure. In a short time we looked very much like the Kakuna elves with pointed feathered hats and short pants. Polly found a hat too. "Caw, caw, ca...

(Book 5 in the Wurtherington Diary)...The cover is always the last piece of art for our books. One can draw from the experience of illustrating the entire story; and then it is effortless to come up with a inspiring idea for a cover. It is viewed in an instant--Tammy, the apple,( and later we added William Tell with his crossbow.) All with a rainbow in the Swiss Alps. We could call this "Fantasy in Blue." if we wished--but we'll stick with the title on hand. Background color is "Pale Dogwood"

Art by Duy Truong.Duy wrote that she had a great idea about a very different bedroom scene than others she had done before, This would be the last scene in our William Tell adventure. "She wrote, " I think it will be adorable. It will be a wonderful way to finish the book." When I saw it for the first time I fell in love with it. What do you think?........... That night I tucked in my little critters as I always did. William Tell had given me one of his arrows as a memento of our friendship and I placed it on the mantle along with the other trophies. Zeke ran his paw across it. "This is William Tell's arrow. We will never forget him, will we?" I said, "We will never forget him. He was truly a brave and courageous man." I tucked him i...

Art by Duy Truong. William Tell infiltrates the enemy camp disguised as a scout. His mission is to lure the Duke into a trap set by the Swiss army.......................William Tell said, "Tarry, I say! I must reach Leopold as I hath important information on Arth. My steed broke down." The taller one said, "We are from Arth and hath an important message for Leopold, too." William Tell said, "They are building it up much more than we imagined." The short fat one said, "We found that out. We must make all haste." They hoisted him aboard and they raced off down the road. We flew on ahead as we wanted to be ready for a hasty departure for William Tell. We stood outside the tent so we could overhear it all. Leopold was discussing the ...

Art by Duy Truong.... Poster size......With this piece of art, I would like to mention that it was my hope that we could take children's illustration to a higher standard. Rather than meeting deadlines, I wanted my artists to do their very best to create a work of art that would endure the passage of time. The stories are timeless, and with any luck, these stories would be my legacy. When Duy began sending off the drafts on this one I was very excited as I could see this would be one of her classic interior scenes. At one point she asked, "What time of day is it?" I told her that I greatly anticipated light beaming through the window. Duy was a master of lighting and when one examines her art, you can see it runs through all her pieces. ...

Robin Hood and the Magna Carta (Book 8 in the Wurtherington Diary) We were all so happy that we could not help but sing a song for Robin, the household staff, the knights, and his guests. Zeke piped a pan flute. Cedric thrummed a lute while Alfred played a zither. Polly brought out her washboard. They sang. "We like Baron Fitzwalter, a great host is he, It matters little if you are finicky. He'll find you the perfect desert, As you will stuff yourself—until you BURP! On the other hand.... We really think King John is downright unkind. We apologize if we speak our mind! We...

Art from Buffalo Bill and the Pony Express: ( The Wurtherington Diary #6) Art by Duy Truong.......... We were ushered to the palace garden that rested alongside the shimmering blue waters of Lake Kira. It was a cool, clear morn with a slight breeze that drifted ever so gently across the waters. A distant range of snow-capped mountaintops undulated and swelled like a line of long lost fairytale sandcastles. Princess Catherine ( the queen of the bees) gave us a warm welcome. No longer did she look at all like a bee. Her hair was now a golden honey that glistened spectacularly in the sunlight. She explained that she had important business with the bees to attend to after our meeting. "They are my little darlings. Not a day goes by witho...

The Wurtherington Diary Tammy meets William Tell ( book five in the series) Art by Duy Truong............Aunt May served hotcakes and sausages at the breakfast table. Lord Wixby gave me a good morning kiss as he always did and read the morning paper while he ate. Mark was wearing a strange outfit with suspenders and a feathered hat. It should have dawned on me that the space-time continuum had been disrupted again. However; I paid little attention to it until I opened the front door and saw that the town had a Bavarian look to it with cute little houses and pointed roofs. A pair of soldiers sat behind sandbags on the street corner wielding bows and arrows. Mark gave a salute and nudged me. "Tammy, you must salute them," he said.

The Wurtherington Diary: The California Gold Rush art by Duy Truong. I said, "I'm ordering you to give up your guns before you get hurt." Mad Dog Zeke gave an icy stare. He growled, "Drop'm now or make your move." Onlookers held their breath as they ducked for cover behind barrels that lined the boardwalk. The trio pulled their weapons from the holsters and sent bullets flying toward us. Mad Dog Zeke and Rattlesnake Cedric ricocheted the flurry of bullets off the skillets. Guns flew from the trio's bloodied hands as their own bullets found fresh targets. I kicked their guns aside as they stood holding their mangled hands. I said, "Turn around, boys. The jail is that way." Fish Eye said, "I need a doctor." Wacko and Rio wrappe...

The Wurtherington Diary: The California Gold Rush art by Duy Truong, Cedric said, "I hope this goes better than the last trip!" I hoped so too as it was a terrifying ordeal. A whirlwind swept all about us and the shed hurled into the air as though we were in the center of a tornado. When I opened my eyes, we were all standing on the balcony of the palace that overlooked the city. We all let out a sigh of relief that the trip went without any problems. Lucinda and Queen Betty greeted us. Alfred became a human as he always did when we returned to Kira. Kakuna elves served us gobble berry pastries and lemonade while we sat under scarlet parasols. Lucinda asked, "How was your trip today? I hope it was not the dreadful affair you encounte...

The Wurtherington Diary: The California Gold Rush art by Duy Truong. I asked Polly if she wanted to be big and give us a ride to Sacramento. "Caw, caw, caw!" I said, "Turn around three times and close your eyes And soon you will be close to the skies. Make that which was small, Grow and be so very tall. Alakazim, Alakazam!" She did the turnaround and Polly became as large as ever. We hopped on Polly and flew high overhead and followed the road. We could see a quintet of bandits robbing the stage and running off with the strong box. We circled a few times as I wanted see where they were going.

The Wurtherington Diary: The California Gold Rush art by Duy Truong. I tucked in my little friends for the night. We were all happy to be back in our comfortable beds. I tucked in Zeke. I said, "I am so proud of you, Mad Dog Zeke. You took care of bad guys left and right." "There was nothin' to it, mum—glad to oblige." He unfolded one of the No shootin' posters and handed it to me. I pinned it to the wall. I smiled. "Those are two of the toughest lawmen that ever roamed the West." I tucked in Polly. "I was so very proud of you, Polly. We are so lucky that you are a good bird and can fly us around huntin' down all those bad cowboys." If she could have smiled, she would have done so. How can one tell if a bird is smiling? He...

Quickly, the gate opened and the villagers raced through it and began battling the soldiers. Arrows were flying all about and soldiers were dropping from the turrets like hail. It was over quickly. The villagers had captured all the soldiers and stood in the middle of the compound grateful that they had won so easily. Baumgarten came down a stairway. He held the bloodied head of the sheriff at his side and held it so all could see. "The sheriff is dead! My wife is a'enged! He will hurt no one from this day!" Art by Duy Truong, Tammy meets William Tell ( The Wurtherington Diary) The men carried their crossbows and gathered at a target range near the river. They had set up a target on a sandy beach that stood about fifty meters off. Everyone took a turn at it. Most everyone hit the target and two had found the bull's-eye. William Tell was the last to shoot. He tested the wind with his finger, then unlatched the trigger of the crossbow. The arrow sailed across the beach and struck the center of the bull's-eye. "Hooray!" they yelled. It was agreed that William Tell was the best marksman of the village. They will not last long against my men. Numbers mean little." We heard a general's voice, "We must give this some thought." Another said, "The barrier they describe sounds formidable. We would lose many men breaking it down." We heard William Tell say, "That barrier will be formidable as it was designed by the Templar Knights." "Templar Knights?" several exclaimed. "They are our fiercest enemy!" William Tell said, "Everyone wonders how they disappeared. I am quite sure they arrived here with their fortunes not long ago. Since then, they hath armed and...
