The Hazzard County Garage, often referred to simply as Cooter's, is an auto repair shop owned by Cooter Davenport from the TV show, Dukes of Hazzard. The garage is located off the main square in the Town of Hazzard, right next door to Rhuebottom's General Store. The Hazzard County Garage is a two-story building with a single bay with a lift and an attached office. The upstairs is largely used for storage and out front, Cooter maintains a set of gas pumps, though it seems like the Dukes fuel up there more than anyone else.

Thomas Jefferson Gay organized the Richardson-Gay Oil Company in Corsicana, Texas in 1903 with partner, W.D. Richardson, with a focus on refining oil. Gay sold his shares in the business in 1905 and moved to Little Rock, Arkansas, where he founded Gay Oil Company in 1907. Gay continued to refine crude oil and manufactured a range of motor oils, but also got into producing gasoline. In addition to wholesaling gas and oil to services stations, Gay also began opening his own branded gas stations, and by 1926, the Gay Oil Company was operating nine gas stations in Little Rock and North Little Rock. Gay operated his namesake oil company until his retirement in 1938, leaving his son to run the show.

Muskegon Gas & Oil Company, aka Musgo, was a Michigan-based petroleum company that started up sometime in the mid-1920s. Collectors believe they were planning on a pretty big footprint in the market given the number of NOS artifacts that still exist today, but nonetheless, Musgo was doomed and dropped off the face of the earth just a few years into their plans for world domination.

Harry Sinclair had his eye on a rival, Prairie Oil and Gas – a Rockefeller interest as big as Sinclair Consolidated. Sinclair held a half interest in the Ajax pipeline, which was jeopardizing the entire Prairie system by siphoning off most of their pipeline traffic. But in 1930, Sinclair sold its half to Standard Oil Company, along with its 50 percent interest in the Sinclair Crude Oil Purchasing Company, for $72.5 million cash.

White Star developed a chain of gas stations WHITE STAR GASOLINE and had its own refinery, and was eventually acquired by the Vacuum Oil Company in 1930, which later became Mobil.

Azienda Generale Italiana Petroli (AGIP) was established in Rome in 1926 under the auspices of the Italian government for the purpose of exploring, exploiting, and distributing Italy's underground resources. After the discovery of oil at Cortemaggiore near Piacenza in 1952, the then president of the state-owned company, Enrico Mattei, decided the company needed a logomark. The new logo depicted a stretched-out figure of a six-legged black dog with large red flames issuing forth from its mouth set against a yellow background and would go on to appear on service stations throughout Europe and in countless placements as a sponsor of a wide range of motorsports and events.

During September 1919, Harry Sinclair restructured Sinclair Oil and Refining Corporation, Sinclair Gulf Corporation, and 26 other related entities into Sinclair Consolidated Oil Corporation. In 1932, this new entity was renamed Consolidated Oil Corporation. In 1943, it was renamed Sinclair Oil Corporation. Near the beginning of the Great Depression, Sinclair sold the remaining interest in its pipeline subsidiary to Standard Oil Company (Indiana) for US$72.5 million (Standard Oil had purchased a 50% interest in the pipeline subsidiary in 1921). With these funds, including an additional US$33.5 million from an additional common stock issue, Sinclair retired several promissory notes and prepared to weather the Depression.

Homer Johnson held a job with the Indian Oil Company as the treasurer and ended up in Lawrenceville, Illinois, where he and his brothers began the process of starting up Johnson Oil. For $6,000,000, Gaseteria Oil Company purchased Johnson Oil Company in 1956. The Illinois and Michigan stations were converted to the Gaseteria or Bonded Brand, and the Oklahoma assets were sold off to Deep Rock. In 1957, Russell Williams, the owner of Gaseteria was killed in a plane crash. This tragic turn of events forced the sell of Gaseteria to Standard's Oklahoma Oil Company Division where the stations were then branded Oklahoma. In 1960, the stations were finally branded Enco under Standard Oil of New Jersey.
