The Hawes Inn, South Queensferry, Scotland, dates back to 17th century. It was an inspiration for Edinburgh author Robert Louis Stevenson when in 1886, while staying in Room 13, he came up with the idea for his novel "Kidnapped". The hero of the book (David Balfour) also stays at the inn. Sir Walter Scott described the Hawes Inn in his novel "The Antiquary". The Inn sits almost directly under the Forth Rail Bridge (you can see a small part of it in the fog, top left of the picture) and was used as a hospital for the 160 plus workers injured while building the bridge. The Yorkshire Dales National Park Hawes Walk Hawes circular walk is our favourite in the stunning Yorkshire Dales and a place we like to visit most years, Covid permitting, This marker sign showing the way to Haylands Bridge is about half way round this stunning walk which entails a few hills and sheep stiles along the way. Hawes is a market town and civil parish in the Richmondshire district of North Yorkshire, England, at the head of Wensleydale in the Yorkshire Dales, and historically in the North Riding of Yorkshire. The waterfall at Hawes in Yorkshire. Hawes Falls is a small waterfall on Gayle Beck as it passes through the centre of the Wensleydale market town of Hawes. Hawes is England's highest market town at 850 feet above sea level.
