Laocoon

The Laocoon sculpture group is one of the most famous in all of art history. The emotion in it's subjects faces marks as a masterpiece of Hellenistic art. In the myth told by Homer and countless others, Laocoon was a Trojan priest who told the Trojans to "Beware Greeks baring gifts" and threw his spear into the side of the Trojan Horse where the Greeks were hiding, ready to attack the Trojans. The Gods, wanting the Greeks to win the war once and for all, sent a sea monster to punish Laocoon and his sons. Today, the sculpture can be seen in the Vatican.
