The word ‘kaleidoscope’ is derived from Ancient Greek, its literal meaning being ‘observer of beautiful forms’. Kaleidoscopes have fascinated us with their complex, colourful and constantly shifting patterns since their invention 200 years ago. The interplay of light, colour and reflection is an elusive quality that artists and designers often seek to capture in their work.

The Fourth plinth is the northwest plinth in Trafalgar Square in central London. It was originally intended to hold an equestrian statue of William IV; but is used as a short-term art space. Works are commissioned and are usually outrageous and controversial. Inspiration was the ‘Gift Horse’. I was a skeletal, riderless horse in bronze and sat on the 4th plinth in 2005.

The Majorelle Garden is a two and half acre botanical garden and artist's landscape garden in Marrakech, Morocco. It was created by the French Orientalist artist, Jacques Majorelle over almost forty years, starting in 1923, and features a Cubist villa designed by the French architect, Paul Sinoir in the 1930’s.

New cities are planned with integrated public transport networks and environmentally beneficial and healthy mode of transport in purpose built and designed cycle-ways and pedestrian walk-ways.

In a supermarket car park that appeared to be the location where shopping trollies went to be dismembered, somebody had inked onto the wall the three letter word... "CAR" to remind us what the car-park was designed and built for.

On 21 October 1805, the Royal Navy clashed with the Combined French and Spanish fleet at Cape Trafalgar, off the coast of Spain. The victory had massive repercussions for Napoleon's France and the future of the shape of Europe for centuries to come. An historic event commemorated in central London by Nelson Column in Trafalgar Square. Much visited by millions of tourists each year.

I was only in Chicago a few hours having arrived from Des Moines by Greyhound, an experience in its own right. I collected as many individual shots as I could hoping that they would come in handy. I never through anything away. Standing on a street corner, waiting to cross, I noticed a man-hole in the street in front of me with information about what was buried below. A whole unseen world laying beneath our feet. This got me thinking as researched what was literally beneath my feet. Mass transit rail systems, water , gas, electric, internet, sewers etc. The list seemed endless. The mission was to try and portray this under-ground world in the context of the well know and more easily observable above group world. Chicago was the portal...

Lost or forgotten due to having occurred or existed so far in the past. For all that we've learned about these ancient now extinct creatures and special places with once-upon-a-time hugely important meaning, most of their purpose and significance has been lost in the mists of time. Where are the DODO now? EXACTLY!

The silhouette of Chaplin is small in the frame and dwarfed by the much larger and complex mural - but the distinctive pose of the great silent actor, still holds the viewer eye. When a boy, I did see Charlie Chaplin in his home in Switzerland. He was in his 90's then, but nice to be able to tell the children that I saw him .... to which the reply is usually ... "who"!

The 1920 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the VII Olympiad, was held in .... Antwerp Belgium but was initially awarded to Budapest, Hungary. In 1919 the 1920 Games were switched to Antwerp as Hungary was not welcome to participate after WWI. Outside the Olympic Stadium Budapest (which was built for the awarded games) are a series of statues for sports that the Hungarians thought were strong sports for the home nation. On my first visit, the weather was dull and damp but I recorded each of the static tableaux wondering at the costumes, earnest effort and the sports themselves (country dancing?) included. Visits in subsequent years following the commusistic era and newly discovered "freedom" ... I found the status...

Part of my Barcelona and Gaudi series. The Cyclist and skeleton was part of street theater outside Gaudi's House and it seemed "interesting" to install these actors as static objects in Gaudi's bathroom. The skyline is made up of well known landmarks in the city including the Olympic Tower.

It is usually said the "dogs are not just for CHRISTMAS" but need looking after throughout the year; feeding, watering, given exercise, cleaning, love and attention. CARs are similar. For many they are a means of transport getting families from A to B. They need love too. Feeding, washing and maintaining. We can hand wash our car OURSELVES to demonstrate our love towards it in a special way; use one of the many hand valet services at the local supermarket... "wash as we shop". There are also drive though washers.

In May in Europe many fields are wonderfully yellow as the oilseed rape (used mainly to make margarine) flowers. Here an undulating grass filed next to an oilseed rape fields provides most of the patterning against the mono-coloured yellow.

JUST PLUG ME IN ; OFF I GO

The most famous COLOUR CUBE must be the Rubik Cube. Ernõ Rubik, a professor from Budapest In Hungary, wanted to help his students understand three-dimensional problems. His solution? The Rubik’s Cube! Ernõ creates the first working prototype of the cube in 1974. Ernõ's prototype cube did things that the world hadn't seen before. It twisted and turned yet it didn’t break. Adding 54 colourful stickers to the six sides gave the puzzle its iconic look. When Ernõ Rubik built his first Cube, it took him over a month to solve it. At that time, he didn’t know that his “Magic Cube” – “Buvos Kocka” in Hungarian - would take the world by storm.

PENGUINS with Absolute EVERYTHING is a short series of creative images inspired by a visit to cold southern lands. Their distinct tuxedo-like black and white appearance is called countershading, a form of camouflage that helps keep them safe in the water. Penguins are poetic, artistic, and intellectually gifted. Graceful and energetic in water living in hostile sea with equally hostile predators that hunt them mercilessly. They are TRUE SURVIVORS.

When my children were small I was asked to build a play house in our back garden. I was involved in a considerable construction project at the time and had access to off-cuts of timber. The simple concept grew on size and complexity; windows with curtains, height so children could stand inside with ease. This "wendy house" was much loved and played with for years , but as the children grew into teens the once cherished house was neglected. One of my children asked me to get rid of it and try as I may it was too big to go round the side of the house and being solidly built in-situ was now a problem to dispose of. The only realistic solution was to burn it in the garden and photograph the event. Again nothing goes to plan. Heat generate...
