Inspired by a trip to Hawaii I started researching primitive art from around the world, finding similarities especially in regards to themes. Food the sourcing and hunting of being the most dominant one. This guy what is he? Some demonic figure or just a simple owl?

For the eighty-third symbol, I painted a petroglyph commonly found in Northern Europe; a ship. There are many different ships, but they have some things in common in shape. They're thought to be related to renewal rituals, both for spring and when someone died. The texture in the background was created using hairs dipped in paint. Who do you think of when you read this? Maybe someone who has gon through a period of renewal?

The block print reminds me of petroglyphs. It is faded, blotchy, irregular and rustic.

The forty-sixth symbol is a Neolithic Earth Goddess, according to the assumptions of the archaeologists. The background was painted loosely in blue and green to create a connection to the Earth and textured with water droplets.

This hand-carved block print design is based off the Tanum rock art in Sweden. The petroglyphs are thought to be from the Bronze Age and depict a variety of items, animals, and people. Here I have recreated one of the images of a ship with what looks to be a sort of dragon head on either side. I have printed it by hand before scanning it to make this design.
