Plesiosaurus (or “Near to lizard,” a reference to it’s closeness to modern reptiles) was not a dinosaur but a marine reptile that swam in the oceans of the Early Jurassic Period, about 199.6 to 175.6 million years ago. It and other members of it’s family were often distinguished by their long necks with some later related species having necks longer than their bodies. It is thought that they used their necks to catch fish and other prey items by snaking their relatively small neck through the water to snag an unsuspecting meal, because the distance of their larger bodies would obscure their real size and not panic the prey as much, this might explain why later species had much longer necks.

In the tradition of the sea monster or plesiosaur, this cute fellow will be a hit with dinosaur fans.

Inspired by paleontologist Mary Anning and artist Henry de la Beche, half of this drawing is the fossilized skeleton of a plesiosaur that Anning discovered, while the other half is the imagined version of a living plesiosaur based on de la Beche's paintings. This was drawn with graphite on two separate papers, then combined and edited digitally using GIMP.

With a length of up to 55ft, and weighting up to an estimated 15 tons, Mosasaurs were Apex Predators that fed on Fish, Sharks, Squid, Marine Reptiles, Ammonites & Other Mosasaurs! Mosasaurs were Marine Reptiles, and not Dinosaurs. They died out around 65-66 MYA at the end of the Late Cretaceous during the K/T extinction event.
