Brightly coloured houses in amongst the rocks in the Battery area of Saint John's in Newfoundland, Canada. The whole town is full of colourful houses and one reason, suggested by a local, was that because people of St. John's enjoy having a good time in the evenings, they needed some way, when making their way home, of telling which of the houses was theirs!! Fishing huts and houses nestle beneath the cliffs in Quidi Vidi in Saint John's Newfoundland as the Autumn Fall colours in the forest above announce that snow and winter will soon arrive. Quidi Vidi has been home to fishing communities since the English first arrived there in the 1600s. Taken 8th October 2023 Nikon D780 Nikon 28-300mm

Fall colors enhance the view of Quidi Vidi which was originally populated in the 1600's by fishermen from South West England who travelled there every year for cod fishing. Some began staying permanently and houses were built, and these fishermen married and had families. There is still a thriving community in this area of St. John's. Signal Hill overlooks the harbour of St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. The Hill, including Cabot Tower, is a National Historic Site. The hill is the site where the first transatlantic wireless transmission received by Guglielmo Marconi in 1901. It was named signal hill because of the signalling that took place upon its summit from its flagmast. Flag communication between land and sea would take place there from the 17th century until 1960. The Parish Church of Saint Hilda in Hartlepool is a Grade I listed building which was constructed in 12th Century. It sits as a prominent feature on Hartlepool Headland, where a monastery was recorded as early a 640.
