I decided to give this coral fan an identity ~ just like a human ~ as all corals are living entities ~ the title describes coral as a much needed presence within the human World. Without coral there would be no you or I. Corals of the World provide us with life ~ our carbon sink "locking up harmful CO2" and allowing us to breathe. They indirectly provide us with a plentiful source of protein ~ a myriad of fish!!! Millions of people everyday are dependent upon jobs due to coral reef systems. These fan-shaped flexible gorgonians tend to populate shallower areas with strong currents. If we continue to destroy corals such as these ~ we continue to destroy ourselves ~ hence the title ~ "UNTIL I'M DESTROYED"

A Gorgonian sea-fan sits within the protective boundary of the wreck ~ just enough shelter from the strong currents sweeping across the deck ~ yet enough flow for these corals to filter feed on food particles passing by in the water column. These calcareous corals are very fragile but if left untouched can grow to substantial size. They are susceptible to damage by divers and silting.

The sheer size of this Gorgonian sea fan is a marvelous example of nature's potential for growth when left untouched. The size, shape, and appearance of the gorgonians are highly correlated with their location. Fan-shaped and flexible gorgonians tend to populate shallower areas with strong currents, whilst tall, thin and stiff gorgonians can be found in deeper calmer waters. Shot offshore of Brunei Darussalam; this fine specimen was photographed from a distance to give an idea of scale, the 'high biodiversity' often seen within the 'Coral Triangle' is typified by the variety of corals in the foreground supporting and protecting, this wonderful underwater 'tree of the sea!'

These stylized corals were hand painted and drawn with watercolors and gel pens. They are vibrant with their deep red, blue, green and golden colors - perfect to gift to a special someone, or even yourself.

Branching out almost like a tree ~ this stunning backdrop of Gorgonian fan coral adds shelter from the drifting currents. Blue damsels dance amidst courting pairs of bluestriped sabretooth blennies and green 'moon' wrasse.
