The York US30 Dragway was located at the York Airport in Thomasville, Pennsylvania from '65 until '79 by Oscar Hostetter. The South Penn Hot Rod Council first ran drag races at the airport site on a limited schedule from '55 until '59, when promoter Bill Holz assumed control in '60, operating it as York US30 Drag-O-Way. Hostetter took over again in '65, operating the facility as the York US30 Dragway, and putting on the biggest event in drag racing history – the 1965 Super Stock Nationals. Others followed, but none have attained the notoriety or attendance of the '65 event, which is still the largest single day drag race in American history.

Rotonda's Speed Shop was founded in 1963 in Bloomfield, New Jersey and while they originally started out selling off the shelf go fast goodies, they added bays for service and installation and ended up building some rather infamous racing engines that broke quite a few records throughout the '60s.

When it comes to race suspension tuning, Gabriel was one of the top names helping to get high performance cars around the track for decades. From some of the earliest forays into shock absorption in 1907 to being one of the most ubiquitous sponsors in motorsports during the '60s and '70s, Gabriel has been there, done that.

PRX Racing Oil was one of many Penn Drake branded petroleum products produced by the Pennsylvania Refining Company from the mid-'40s through the late '60s. Penn Drake takes its name from the Drake Well in Pennsylvania, a 69'-foot-deep oil well in Cherrytree Township, Venango County, the success of which sparked the first oil boom in the United States. Drilled by Edwin Drake in 1859 along the banks of Oil Creek, it is the first commercial oil well in the United States and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1966. The well is the centerpiece of the Drake Well Museum located 3 miles south of Titusville. ​

In 1940, the owners of Seattle’s Playland Amusement Park decided to build a racetrack where they could host various motorsports events. Calling it Aurora Stadium Speedway, the new 1/4 mile dirt track opened in 1941 and quickly became a popular attraction. Aurora hosted hot rod races one night and midgets on another night, usually Fridays and Saturdays, but as America entered WWII, racing was put on hold at the end of '41. The end of the war saw the boys come home, and racing resumed in '46. Soon, the track would get paved and stock cars were added to the mix. As Seattle's population grew into the once rural area, noise complaints by neighbors coupled with the slow decline of the amusement park led to the track was closing down in '58.

Short track racing is where stock car racing got its start after leaving the back road events behind in favor of organized and regulated competition. Unlike the larger tracks, short-track events offer fans and competitors close racing, where the bodies of the cars actually rub against one another on oval tracks of less than one mile in length. Known as the 'minor leagues' of racing, this is where aspiring drivers, mechanics, and tuners can get into racing on a budget, and have a ton of fun doing it. Most professional drivers gets started short trackin' before making their way from these rural bullrings to the superspeedways.

Riverside International Raceway (sometimes known as Riverside, RIR, or Riverside Raceway) was a motorsports race track and road course established in the Edgemont area of Riverside County, California, just east of the city limits of Riverside and 50 miles east of Los Angeles, in 1957. In 1984, the raceway became part of the newly incorporated city of Moreno Valley. Riverside was noted for its hot, dusty environment and for being a somewhat complicated and dangerous track for drivers, but was also considered one of the finest tracks in America. The track was in operation from September 22, 1957, to July 2, 1989.

North Wilkesboro Speedway is a short oval racetrack located on Route 421, 80 miles north of Charlotte. The speedway opened its doors on May 18, 1947, as a dirt track with the first official event promoted as a modified race, including heat races and a feature event. The original dirt oval was paved in 1957 and continued to operate until the track's closure in 1996.

In the early 20th century, drivers came to prove their prowess in Daytona Beach and several land speed records were set in the process. This eventually led to some loosely organized races, though the first “official” race on Daytona Beach took place in 1936. The track ran due south for two miles on A1A, which runs parallel to the ocean. Drivers then accessed the beach at the South Turn, went two miles on the hard-packed beach surface, and turned away from the beach at the North Turn (now the location of a great restaurant). It sounds crazy to hold stock car racing events on the beach nowadays, but for about two decades, it was THE place to race if you were an up-and-coming racer wanting to rub wheels with the big boys.

"Dandy" Dick Landy was a master showman and a major pioneer in Super Stock, Funny Car, and Pro Stock drag racing. He was known for his innovative race cars, wild wheel stands, and his signature look of pressed white pants and jacket and long cigar clenched between his teeth. Automotive Research was Landy's first engine-building and tuning shop, opened in Sherman Oaks, California, in the early 1960s. Later, he would change the name to Dick Landy Industries and move to nearby Northridge. The business, which also employed his brother who acted as crew chief and engine builder, would continue until Landy's death in 2007.
