On my walk through the old town of Naples on an early August morning in 2016 I was lucky enough to find all the stores just opening and preparing for the day. Doesn't this squash looks delicious. Such simple display. Such rich colors. August 2016. iphone 6.

Summer squash (Cucurbita pepo) pollen grain (about 220 micrometers in diameter) under the microscope.

"Fak tong," the Thai word for pumpkin, could be translated literally to "hatching gold" and the Lao word "mak eu" to "poop fruit." In English it's usually translated as pumpkin, but I think they are technically a squash, similar to kabocha, or Japanese squash. Artist: Kate Dougan
