Four Flowers Designs

This beautiful rose "painting" was created from a photograph taken in my garden, then morphed into this image using several different software programs.

Just for fun, I felt like playing with one of the most famous ladies in the world. I've softened the painting and turned it into something reminiscent of the hand-painted black and white photos that I remember from my childhood. I added a gleam in her eyes, a bit of eyeliner and shadow, some blush and lipstick (very subtle - she's a classy lady!)

This is actual graffiti we found on a wall in a tiny back street in Rome. I touched up the image a bit, to make it easier to read, but it's pretty much as we saw it.

Taken on our trip to Alaska. Apparently we were very lucky to have such a clear view of the mountain top. She makes her own weather, and usually has her head in the clouds.

Walking in the Gothic Quarter in Barcelona on a frigid January day, we heard music echoing through the stone alleys and courtyards. We finally found the guitar player, alone in a courtyard. The acoustics were amazing, as was the music.

This man walking in wooden shoes, so traditionally Dutch, was photographed in Zaanse Schans in The Netherlands. I assume he was an interpreter in this historic village. From their website, "The Zaanse Schans is a residential area in which the 18th and 19th centuries are brought to life. Stroll past the bakery museum and enjoy the smell of fresh bread, or take a look at the warehouse where clogs are made. You should be sure not to miss the cheese factory, pewter foundry and the various windmills. The Zaanse Schans is a unique part of the Netherlands, full of wooden houses, mills, barns and workshops. Make a cycling or sailing trip, browse the shops or treat yourself at the pancake restaurant. A day out at the Zaanse Schans in North Holla...

Grasses waving in the breeze reminded me of the lyric "for amber waves of grain". I applied a texture and color reminiscent of "purple mountains majesty".

I spotted these two tiny flowers nestled up against the red shed at the Robert Frost Stone House Museum in Shaftsbury, Vermont, which is where Frost wrote one of his most famous poems, "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" in 1922,on a hot June morning.

It was pouring rain the day I chose to visit a New Hampshire orchard and pumpkin patch. That didn't make the pumpkins any less bright.

I photographed this building while walking along the boardwalk in Halifax, Nova Scotia. As far as I can tell, it's currently not in use, probably undergoing renovations. I believe it is, was, or will be a restaurant. I found the color, the windows, and the dock very picturesque coupled with the reflections in the rippling water.

This is a William Baffin Rose, which is bred to be hardy even up into Canada. This shot is from a large bush in my back yard.

A painterly macro representation of a plant on I photographed on the High Line in NYC. From research, I believe it's a Fennel flower. I particularly like the contrast of the light golden yellows against the dark background foliage.

A storm at sea, finally passed, then a rainbow.

This started out as a simple photo of plant material, then was morphed into...this.

The wake of a boat sometimes causes a small whirlpool. This digitally-manipulated photograph, in hues of blues and greens, depicts that in an abstract artistic way.

Beautiful red apples against glossy green leaves, found growing at an orchard in New Hampshire. Since this particular apple tree wasn't labeled, my best guess at the type is Jonamac, because of the nearly pure red color. Regardless of the type, there is no question that they are juicy and delicious.

In the midst of a snowfall in Massachusetts, I shot this last remaining dried Hydrangea blossom through the window, from the warmth of my home. The bluish-white background is a blanket of snow.

This angel lives outside of the main NYC public library on 5th Ave., Manhattan. She sits on one of a pair of bronze flagpole bases, sculpted by Menconi to a sketch by Thomas Hastings (1912) and cast at Tiffany Studios. She has a very peaceful look about her.

Nestled between the water and the rocky cliff, this picturesque old fishing shack needs more than a little TLC. The remains of the storm-tossed dock hang precariously upon the rocky shore in the harbor at St. John's Newfoundland in Canada.

The inspiration for this painting was a photograph I took of some red berries against a stockade fence in my backyard, after a snowfall. I added a light snow still falling for added interest (zoom in for detail).This is my first watercolor painting in decades (Yay! Proof that I can still hold a paintbrush!)

I went to the 31st floor of the hotel I was staying in on 41st St. and took a shot looking as straight down as I could reach over the parapet. Not wanting the shot to be boring and normal, I played with the image until I got this result.

This "Mandald" looks very floral, or maybe like a butterfly.
