A team known as the Jacksonville Suns competed in the Triple-A International League from 1962 to 1968. The franchise was relocated to Norfolk, Virginia, as the Tidewater Tides in 1969. After one season without professional baseball, a different Suns team came to the city in 1970 as members of the Double-A Southern League (SL). From 1985 to 1990, the team was known as the Jacksonville Expos during an affiliation with the Montreal Expos, but they returned to the Suns moniker in 1991. The club rebranded as the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp before the 2017 season.

The Chicago Hustle was a team in the Women's Professional Basketball League (WBL) from 1978 to 1981. The Hustle played in all three WBL seasons and led the league in attendance each year. The WBL disbanded in 1981 because of financial problems throughout the league.

The Chicago Majors was a basketball team based in Chicago, Illinois, that was a member of the American Basketball League from 1961 to 1963. The ABL was the first basketball league to have a three point shot for baskets scored far away from the goal. Other rules that set the league apart were a 30-second shooting clock and a wider free throw lane, 18 feet instead of the standard 12.

The Rockets were founded in 1967 and played 4 seasons in San Diego until the franchise was bought and moved to Houston. On June 23, 1971, the San Diego Rockets were abruptly sold by Breitbard to a Houston-based investment group. The NBA hurriedly approved the sale, believing the franchise was on the verge of folding. News of the sale broke before the coaches, players, and team employees and executives could even be notified.

The Anaheim Amigos were a charter member American Basketball Association (ABA) team based in Southern California. After their first season in Anaheim, the team moved to Los Angeles to become the Los Angeles Stars. In 1970, it moved to Salt Lake City and became the Utah Stars. The Amigos were the first professional team in any sport to bill themselves as representing the city of Anaheim, California.

San Diego Conquistadors were the first and only expansion team in the American Basketball Association, playing from 1972 to 1975. They were also called the "Q's. The San Diego Conquistadors (known as the San Diego Sails in their final, partial season), played an incomplete season only, beginning the 1975–1976 season but folding after only 11 games with 3 wins and 8 losses.

The Bay State Bombardiers were a short-lived minor league basketball club in the Continental Basketball Association (1978-2009). The CBA was the official developmental league of the NBA during the 1980’s and 1990’s. The team originated in Bangor, Maine as the Maine Lumberjacks (1978-1983). The club moved south in March 1983 when Lumberjacks investor John Ligums relocated the team to Brockton, Massachusetts, twenty minutes south of his home in the tony Boston suburb of Milton.

The Seattle SuperSonics (commonly known as the Sonics) were an American professional basketball team based in Seattle. The SuperSonics competed in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the Western Division (1967–1970), and later as a member of the Western Conference's Pacific (1970–2004) and Northwest (2004–2008) divisions. After the 2007–08 season ended, the team relocated to Oklahoma City, where they now play as the Oklahoma City Thunder. he nickname, logo and color scheme are available to any subsequent NBA team that plays at KeyArena subject to NBA approval.

The Washington Lumberjacks was a WBA Basketball team based in the Tri-Cities region (Kennewick, Pasco & Richland) of Washington state. The Western Basketball Association was a one-year effort to create a Western counterpart & competitor to the country’s top minor basketball league, the Pennsylvania-based Continental Basketball Association (CBA). The WBA began play in the fall of 1978 with seven teams in Arizona, California, Montana, Nevada, Utah, and Washington. All WBA franchises, including the Lumberjacks, folded during the summer of 1979.

The Buffalo Braves were an American professional basketball franchise based in Buffalo, New York. The Braves competed in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member club of the league's Eastern Conference Atlantic Division from 1970 until 1978. In 1978, Braves owner John Y. Brown Jr. swapped franchises with then-Boston Celtics owner Irv Levin, who then moved the team to San Diego, where it was renamed the San Diego Clippers. The franchise moved to Los Angeles in 1984, and is now known as the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Oakland Oaks were a charter member of the original American Basketball Association and the first West Coast basketball team to win a major professional championship. Formed in February 1967, the team played in the ABA during the 1967–68 and 1968–69 seasons at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum. The team colors were green and gold. The team was sold and moved to Washington, D.C. for the 1969–70 season, where it was renamed the Washington Caps.

The franchise was established in 1961 as the Chicago Packers based in Chicago, Illinois, and was renamed to Chicago Zephyrs the following season. In 1963, they relocated to Baltimore, Maryland, and became the Baltimore Bullets, taking the name from a previous team of the same name. The Bullets' name was revived in 1963 when the former Chicago Zephyrs relocated to Baltimore; even after these Bullets relocated to Washington in 1973, they kept their name for 24 more years until they were renamed the Wizards.

Originally called the Pittsburgh Pipers, they were a charter franchise of the ABA and captured the first league title in 1968. The team played their home games in Pittsburgh's Civic Arena. The team was dispersed in 1972. Pittsburgh was not big enough to support all four major league sports.

The Miami Floridians, later in their history known simply as The Floridians, were a professional basketball franchise in the original, now-defunct American Basketball Association. The Miami Floridians played in the ABA from 1968 through 1970 when they became simply The Floridians and played through the 1972 season. The team had two color schemes: their original red, blue, and white, and their later black, magenta, and orange. The Floridians began as the Minnesota Muskies, a charter ABA franchise who played in Bloomington, Minnesota. Show some Miami pride.

It began on March 9 and ended with the championship game on March 26 in Salt Lake City. Michigan State, led by Magic Johnson, won the national title with a 75–64 victory in the final game over Indiana State, led by Larry Bird. Indiana State came into the game undefeated, but couldn't extend their winning streak. Magic Johnson was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player. Both players were drafted into the NBA and played in the next fall.

They were also known for having some of the best fan support in the ABA. From 1970–1975, the Stars went 265-171 (.608), which was the best winning percentage of any team that played more than one season in the league.

The Virginia Squires was a basketball team based in Norfolk, Virginia, and playing in several other Virginia cities. They were members of the American Basketball Association from 1970 to 1976. The team originated in 1967 as the Oakland Oaks, an ABA charter franchise based in Oakland, California. They moved to Washington, D.C. as the Washington Caps in 1969 but moved to Norfolk the following year, becoming the Squires. A regional team, they played home games in Richmond, Hampton, and Roanoke as well as Norfolk. The team folded in 1976, just a month before the ABA–NBA merger.Show your hometown pride
