Several different minor league baseball teams have called the city of Orlando, Florida home from 1919–2003. Most have played in the Florida State League. The Minnesota Twins arrived in 1963 and set up a new affiliate called the Orlando Twins. The franchise joined the Southern League in 1973. The Twins played at Tinker Field in downtown Orlando, near the Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium. In 1990, the team was renamed the Orlando Sun Rays. In 1993, the Chicago Cubs became the team's new major-league affiliate, and the team was renamed the Orlando Cubs. While still a Chicago Cubs affiliate, the team renamed itself once again in 1997 and became the Orlando Rays.

The Salem Redbirds were a minor league baseball team based in Salem, Virginia. The city of Salem has hosted minor league baseball each summer since 1957. Prior to the 1980 season, the Salem team was called the Pirates, associated with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Then the team changed affiliation to the Padres and changed the name to the Redbirds. In 1984 the affiliation changed again to the Texas Rangers, but the team kept the Redbird name until 1986, when they changed to the Buccaneers.

The Oklahoma minor league team was originally known as the Oklahoma City 89ers from 1962 to 1997. It first competed in the Triple-A American Association (AA) in 1962, moved to the PCL from 1963 to 1968, and returned to the AA from 1969 to 1997. The franchise's original name made reference to the Land Run of 1889, which led to the founding of Oklahoma City.

The Appleton Foxes played in the Midwest League for nearly three decades. The team used the Fox Cities Foxes moniker from 1958-1961, and again from 1963-1966. In 1995 the team changed its name to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.

The Visalia Oaks began play in the California League in 1977, replacing the San Jose Bees. They have played the circuit ever since, aside from the 1993 and 1994 seasons, when the club was known as the Central Valley Rockies. In the Oaks' second season, they captured a league championship, while seven members of their starting lineup scored over 100 runs. After the 2008 season the Oaks changed their name to the Visalia Rawhide.

The Washington Senators baseball team was one of the American League's eight charter franchises. The club was founded in Washington, D.C. in 1901 as the Washington Senators. In 1905, the team changed its official name to the Washington Nationals. The name "Nationals" appeared on the uniforms for only two seasons, and was then replaced with the "W" logo for the next 52 years. However, the names "Senators", "Nationals" and shorter "Nats" were used interchangeably by fans and media for the next 60 years.

The Phoenix Giants, a minor league affiliate of the San Fransisco Giants, played in the Pacific Coast League between 1966 and 1985. An earlier version of the Phoenix Giants played in the PCL in 1958-1959. Following the 1985 season, the franchise was re-branded as the Phoenix Firebirds.

The Savannah Cardinals were a minor league baseball team in the South Atlantic League from 1984 to 1995. The team was an affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals. In 1996, the team changed its name to the Sand Gnats, and became an affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Idaho Falls has hosted a number of minor league teams in the Pioneer League since 1940. From 1986 to 1991 and then again from 1993 to 1999 the team was affiliated with and named after the Atlanta Braves. The team is now called the Idaho Falls Chukars and is independent.

The Tacoma Tugs was the name of the minor league baseball team in Tacoma, Washington in 1979. The team had formerly been named directly after the major league affiliated teams, the Tigers, Giants, Cubs, Twins, and Yankees. Following an affiliation change to the Cleveland Indians, a local contest was held and long-time Tacoma resident, Gary W. Grip won with his entry, the Tacoma Tugs. Grip drew his inspiration for the name from the many tugboats in the Tacoma waters. The franchise was renamed the Tacoma Tugs, marking the first time the team's nickname did not align with its major league club. After one season as the Tugs, the team returned to the Tigers nickname in 1980.

The Gate City (Pocatello) Pioneers were a minor league baseball team in the Rookie League from 1990 to 1991. The team featured players from the Montreal Expos and Chicago White Sox farm systems as well as minor league players from the Hiroshima Toyo Carp of the Nippon Professional Baseball. For the 1991 season, the team changed its name to the Pocatello Pioneers. The franchise then relocated to Lethbridge, Alberta, where they became the Lethbridge Mounties.

The Jackson Bandits were a minor league professional ice hockey team and member of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). The Bandits played at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson, Mississippi between 1999 and 2003. Previously the franchise played as the Chesapeake Icebreakers in Upper Marlboro, Maryland prior to their relocation following the 1998–99 season.The Bandits ceased operations in 2003 after the ECHL denied the team's request to suspend operations for a year.

The Beaumont Golden Gators were a minor league baseball team in the double A Texas League from 1983 to 1986. The team was an affiliate of the San Diego Padres for their entire tenure. In 1986 the team was sold to a group that moved them to Wichita, Kansas before the 1987 season, becoming the Wichita Pilots.

The Rockford Expos was the initial moniker of the minor league baseball team located in Rockford, Illinois from 1988 to 1999. The Expos were Rockford's first entity in the Midwest League. Rockford was an affiliate of the Montreal Expos (1988–1992), Kansas City Royals (1993–1994), Chicago Cubs (1995–1998) and Cincinnati Reds (1999). In 2000, the Rockford franchise moved to Dayton, Ohio, where the franchise played in the Midwest League and continues play today as the Dayton Dragons.

The Nashua Pirates were a minor league baseball team, based in Nashua, New Hampshire. The team started in 1983 as the Nashua Angels, an affiliate with the California Angels in the Eastern League. The club changed affiliations in 1984 to the Pittsburgh Pirates and were then renamed the Nashua Pirates and played through the 1986 season. The team's home ballpark was Holman Stadium.

There were two incarnations of the baseball team known as the Salinas Packers. The first existed from 1954 to 1958, and was affiliated with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1955 and the Milwaukee Braves from 1956 to 1958. The second incarnation existed from 1973 to 1975, and was affiliated with the California Angels. Both incarnations were located in Salinas, California and played in the California League.

The Wilkes-Barre Red Barons were a minor league baseball team based in Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania. The team arrived in Lackawanna County in 1989 from Old Orchard Beach, Maine, where it was previously the Maine Phillies and before that Maine Guides and were renamed the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons. The name was chosen as a reference to the early minor league franchises in the area, the Scranton Red Sox and the Wilkes-Barre Barons, both members of the Eastern League.

The Newark Bears were an American Minor League Baseball team that played in the top-level International League from 1917 through the 1949 season. The Bears succeeded the Newark Indians, originally the Sailors, who played in the same circuit (known as the Eastern League prior to 1912) from 1902. During the Bears' lifetime, the International League was graded one step below the Major League Baseball level, Class AA through 1945 and Triple-A starting in 1946. Following the 1949 season, the Bears moved to Springfield, Massachusetts.

A second Spirit team started that same year in San Bernardino but lacked major league affiliation until 1995 when an agreement was made with the Dodgers and soon thereafter became the Stampede.
