A cyclist descends a lumpy lane hemmed in by drystone walls, accompanied by a playful spaniel terrier. The touring bicycle has a Carradice saddlebag which is full of provisions for the day. My first racing bike was a Lilac Carlton Corsa, this is a modified version in aqua similar to the Equipe colourway. It still sports the Weinmann centre pull brakes but everything else has been altered, including the dimpled French style full aluminium mudguards, cream Schwalbe Delta Cruiser tyres and leather Brooks Swallow saddle. I really enjoyed recreating the chrome effect in paint, so popular on 60s and 70s bicycles. Celebrating the famous Italian vintage bike ride that takes place in the Chianti area of Tuscany in October. Every bike that takes part in the event must have been made before 1987 and be equipped with down-tube gear levers, external brake cables, and pedals with toe-clips. I painted this picture to celebrate one of the most distinctive frame builders in British cycling. Hetchins are renowned for their ornate lugwork and curly seat and chain stays. The image shows the Hetchins badge along with fancy graphics in the background and this particular bicycle is owned by a good cycling buddy. This Condor Baracchi is my current ride, its really comfortable, lightweight and fast, built by a renowned UK frame builder who has be producing bikes for over 60 years. Named after The Trofeo Baracchi a major Italian cycling race that ran for 50 years. It was created by Mino Baracchi, in memory of his father Angelo who was a great cycle racing fan. I had a Cannondale bike like this, it had fancy henna style graphics and I like the idea that this pattern blended with the sun dappled tarmac in the background.
