The NY Thruway is a system of controlled-access toll roads spanning 569.83 miles within the state of New York. The main line extends from the New York City line at Yonkers to the Pennsylvania state line at Ripley, passing through cities including Albany, Syracuse, and Buffalo. The first section opened in 1954, and by 1957 the mainline was largely completed. Former employees and frequent travelers would love this vintage transparent, slightly rough-edged, distressed version of the logo.

The perfect 45th birthday gift for the person who is young at heart. A play on words, because this little insert lets a 45 rpm record play on a regular 33 rpm turntable.

During World War One, Victory Boys and Victory Girls clubs were organized in the US to raise five dollars per child for the United War Work Campaign. The kids were between the age 12 and 20 and received a pin when they turned in a pledge card. They had to work for the pledge and not solicit it from their parents or others, and many exceeded the pledge amounts. This was the first time in U.S. history that children were part of an organization that helped the war effort.
Not the best year? That's OK, it's almost over, and 2024 is straight ahead. 23 Skidoo is a phrase that originated more than 100 years ago, and it's slang for "Scram." So 23 Skidoo - and don't look back!

The National Recovery Administration (NRA) was an agency established by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1933. The goal was to eliminate cut throat competition by bringing industry, labor, and government together to create codes of fair practices and set prices during the Depression. The NRA, symbolized by the Blue Eagle, was popular with workers. Businesses that supported it put the symbol in their shop windows and on their packages. Although not mandatory, businesses that did not display the eagle were very often boycotted.

When new president Patrick B. McGinnis took control of the company in 1954, he hired Herbert Matter as the railroad’s design consultant. Matter created the bold slab-serif logo used in combinations of black, white and red, on everything from locomotives and cars to pamphlets and menus. Whatever your preference, I have the variation that's right for you.

Lancaster County PA was home to Penn Dairies, Inc., with the trade name now known as Pensupreme. Their ice cream was a very popular treat in the area, and the company also owned several convenience stores around the county. Now it is a pleasant memory. This design for the darker color shirts.

Vintage image culled from 1920s advertising for this premier named passenger train that operated from 1892 to 1965 via the "Dixie Route" from Chicago and St. Louis via Evansville, Nashville, and Atlanta to Florida.
Adapted from an early decal. For more than 40 years, Frontier Town, a Wild West theme park, was a destination for families from across the country. Visitors traveled back into living history visiting the hearths and homes of a pioneer village, enjoying a rodeo and finding themselves in the midst of a hold-up by outlaws on horseback. Do you or a friend remember this roadside attraction at Exit 29 on the Northway?

Pollepel Island in the Hudson River in New York. The principal feature on the island is Bannerman's Castle, an abandoned military surplus warehouse. New York Central Railroad provided passenger service along the east bank of the river, and this is the view from near Breakneck Mountain towards Cornwall and Newburgh in the distance. A fantasy poster design created exclusively by Matchbook Graphics from vintage source material.
