Water Park Hoodies

Anyone who has lived in western Washington knows that water parks aren't exactly compatible with the weather, and having one open for the few months that you *may* have warm enough temps to enjoy them isn't really economically viable. While that may be the case, that didn't stop developers from building one in Issaquah, Washington back in 1984. Located at the south end of Lake Sammamish and just off I-90 in an area that is now just one ginormous business park, Waterworks Park claimed to offer more than a mile of waterslides. Built on a massive pile of excavated earth from the Mount Baker Tunnel project in Seattle, the park was sitting on an artificial mountain on land that would all too soon be too valuable, leading to its closure in 1988.

You would think after I have spent 5 weeks traveling through Prague (Czech Republic) and France (Paris, Normandy and Brittany) I would post images from that part of the planet! Nope. I am so far behind on my images it's not even funny. Watkins Glen State Park is located outside the village of Watkins Glen, south of Seneca Lake in Schuyler County in New York's Finger Lakes region. The park has an area of about 778 acres with a 400 foot deep narrow gorge that cuts through the rock by Glen Creek. During the Ice Age, glaciers deepened the Seneca Valley and increased the tributary stream gradient to create rapids and waterfalls wherever there were layers of hard rock. This is one section of the park and this is what it looks like...

Cotswold Water Park Number of views as of 14th March 2016 = 200. The Cotswold Water Park is a large lake system covering over 40 square miles of countryside in Wiltshire and Gloucestershire. Remarkably the lakes were only created in the last 50 years. Following extraction of gravel, the resultant pits filled naturally after works ceased in the early 1970s. Of the 140 plus lakes, 74 can be fished, and 10 are Sites of Special Scientific Interest. Some have been developed into lakeside developments of luxury homes. Others offer sailing and other water activities. Date: 14th February 2015

This image is taken during one of my early morning hikes at Zion National Park. You are looking at a small cascade of the Virgin River (a tributary of the Colorado River), which runs throughout the park. The river is about 160 miles (260 km) long, and was designated Utah's first wild and scenic river in 2009 during the centennial celebration of Zion National Park. This specific location is surrounded by steep rocks and overhanging limestone walls. Very well worth the long hike to the bottom of the river. Hope you like this image.
